Adriana "Audrey" Bastiaanssen

Adriana “Audrey” Bastiaanssen passed away peacefully at the Chinook Care Centre in Calgary, Alberta, on Saturday, November 11th, 2023, at the age of 83 years.

Audrey was born in Dorst, Netherlands, and came to Canada with her family in 1982. The family settled in Airdrie, where they enjoyed their home for more than 30 years. Audrey had a deep love for family and friends. She hosted many gatherings, and always delighted guests with her cooking and baking skills. Rearranging furniture in the house was one of her favourite activities. She enjoyed filling her yard with flowers every spring, and spent all summer nurturing them.

Her recall for life event details was impressive. Any dates of major events, who was related to whom etc., she would know. She loved to tell stories of her parents, siblings and friends. It never failed to make us laugh as she imitated everyone’s accent perfectly and the stories never got old, no matter how many times we heard them.

Audrey is lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Hendrikus “Harry” Bastiaanssen; daughter, Astrid of Airdrie, AB; son, Eric and daughter-in-law Kim, of Airdrie, AB; and grandson, Keal of Tofino, BC.

 The family wishes to thank the staff at Chinook Care Centre for their kind and compassionate care of Audrey. As well as the family and friends that supported us during the difficult journey of dementia.
