Alan Heslop

Alan Heslop passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on March 20, 1935, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Alan gave his life to Christ at the age of 17 and lived a life marked by faith, perseverance, and love.

He was the beloved husband of Shirley Mae McPeek, whom he married on August 4, 1956. Together, they built a life rooted in love and shared adventures for nearly 69 years.

Alan began his career with Esso in Regina, eventually transferring to Calgary in 1969. Starting as a draftsman, he rose to become a Senior Research Geologist. After 22 years, he launched his own consulting firm, earning international recognition for his expertise in petrophysics, even on one occasion acting as an expert witness for the World Court at The Hague. When the oil industry declined, Alan embraced a new venture—ostrich farming in Irricana, Alberta—for eight years.

After overcoming cancer, Alan and Shirley moved to Airdrie, where they lived for nearly 30 years. In this next chapter of his life, Alan stayed active, working in real estate, building homes, and doing renovations.

Alan was predeceased by his parents, John and Agnes (Nan) Heslop; his brother John “Jack” (Wilda); and sisters Harriet (Les) Webb and Audrey (Hugh) Purdy.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Shirley Mae; his children Kenneth (Lois), Glenn (Angela), and Hope (Brian) Harkins; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lutheran Church, 216 Main Street, Airdrie, AB, on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
