In Memory
Alexander Bruce Bodner
June 26th, 1935 - January 8th, 2025
Bruce was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 26th, 1935 and passed away on January 8th, 2025 at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, AB after a good solid fight to remain in his home of 50+ yrs. Bruce was in hospital 4 days before passing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bruce loved his family, rally racing cars, the Athabasca Glacier, being outdoors, skiing, hiking, diving or travelling in his motorhome with his wife of 67 yrs, visiting his sons and grandchildren and old friends. He was always willing and able to help anyone who was in need. His love of animals and caring was always present.
Like his best friend of 85 yrs he was a great story teller, and some of his stories were pretty exciting and like his best friend some were even true…(they told us many of the same stories haha)
Bruce is lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 yrs Janet; 2 boys, Derek (Ajit) and Christopher (Suzanne); 7 grandchildren, Hannah, Talah, Amy, Chandel, Daniel, Simon, and Tasha; great-granddaughter, Oleysia, and nieces and nephews.
Bruce was predeceased by his son, Darrel; mother, Henrietta; father, John and his wife, Laura; and brother, Robert (Bob).
A Celebration of Life will be held at his home of 50+yrs, for family and friends on Saturday, January 18th, from 1pm on.

Grandpa, forever in my heart and memories. Thank you for the advice many years ago. For the adventures and stories to remember for a lifetime. A granddaughter couldn’t ask for a better grandpa. Love you grandpa.

Love you grandpa, I hope you’re at peace now you deserve to be. I’ll always remember the trips we took and the lessons you’ve taught me. You always stood your ground and that’s something I always respected and admired about you even if it came across as stubborn sometimes haha. I know you always meant the best for everyone.

I’m always going to cherish the adventures you took me my sisters on when I was little. Your love for the outdoors will always resonate with me, and just as my dad did, I hope to carry on that wonderful legacy to my own kids when I’m older. I’m so grateful I was able to hear the stories of your youth and amazing accomplishments. Thank you and grandma for always including my moms side of the family, It always meant a lot to me. Love you!

Dad,
When I sit outside in your backyard under a full moon it feels like you are there in that breeze that Calgary always has that you loved so much..
My life with you was always a learning experience from driving on ice to skiing to backpacking, climbing, diving. Being responsible to others… You taught us to care for others in need, you always help others in need.
I remember you as the one who always stood up and was there when I needed you.. I will always remember how much you cared about animals.
Dad you always made others feel welcome to our family..
You are missed and always will be..Thanks for being a dad…

I'm sure our house was the loudest on the block. I know it was because you cared about us kids a whole lot. We sure did alot of camping, hiking, biking, swimming, climbing, skiing. All that good healthy outdoorsy stuff. My two favorite camping spots are, the Shuswap lakes and the ice fields. It was so cool to get a ride out to the middle of the glacier on the bumper of the bombardier. Then start our hike from there. All tourist would take our pictures. Haha. I have learned to just ask people, strangers or whomever for whatever. Oh and driving with you was always an adventure. Those "bastards driving slow in the fast lane. Impeding traffic!" They sure knew what the highbeems could be used for. And how close you could get thier rear end.... Good times Dad. Love you for all of them. You always had our back. Even if you were not so happy. Thank you forever. I'll see you again someday. Until then, cheers.
