In Memory
Alfred John Spooner

Alfred Spooner passed away on Wednesday, October 8th at the age of 72 years surrounded by his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Margo, his sons, Daniel (Sade) and Kevin (Kathryn), granddaughter, Harper, and sister Ella Keim along with many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Hughie and Helen Spooner.
Alfred was born and raised in the Carstairs area, graduating from Hugh Sutherland High School in 1971. Having cultivated an aptitude and appreciation for mechanics and cars in his youth, he found a career as a mechanic at Milt Ford Motors before it was bought by Parkview Pontiac where he became a parts manager, and then joined the Oil and Gas industry, having worked at the Lone Pine and Amoco Gas Plants, and finally as a mechanical maintenance technician for Plains Midstream before retiring in 2018. A community man, Alfred volunteered around town, helping out with the Carstairs Elks, being a part of the Carstairs Rec Board, and coached and acted as timekeeper for his sons’ hockey teams.
Alfred loved to spend his days drinking coffee, playing card games with his family, golfing with his beloved wife, and watching his sons play hockey. Later in life, he was blessed with a granddaughter whom he loved spending time with, holding, and attempting to keep up with her boundless energy. His generosity will also be missed by his three grandpets, Pete, Meadow, and Echo.
The family would like to thank the team at Foothills Hospital for their care and attention. A small private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we would invite memorial donations to be made to STARS Air Ambulance, www.stars.ca, a charity near and dear to Alfred’s heart.

Please accept our condolences for the passing of Alfred. Al was an amazingly resilient, calm, positive, forgiving person. Having known him my entire life and seen him go through all the challenges he faced, not once did he utter words of anger or defeat.
Alfred was a great human being and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Our thoughts are with you during this time of loss.
