Christine Vanderheide

It is with very heavy and broken hearts, that we have to announce the passing of our dear sister and auntie Alice Christine Vanderheide into her heavenly home on Monday, December 11, 2023.

Christine was born on May 5, 1960, the second child of Carel and Maria Vanderheide. She loved growing up on the family farm close to Virden, MB. She was always an optimistic happy child which was a character trait that stuck with her, her whole life.

Shortly after graduating high school in 1979, she decided to move west, ending up in Calgary, AB, where she stayed the remainder of her life. She worked a few different jobs throughout her career, most of them being in the accounting field.

Christine loved travelling, and every time she had holidays from work, her and her younger sister Erica, would jet set off to a new country or beach to explore.

She was a compassionate, loving, caring, beautiful person. She had a unique sense of humor that always had everyone laughing. It was always a joy to be together with her. We are left with a large hole in our hearts and in our family, and we are not sure how we are going to do life without her.

She will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Richard (Cathy) Vanderheide; sisters, Emily (Rocky) Siemens and Erica Vanderheide; niece, Jaralyn (Adam) Monkman; their children, Wyatt and Sawyer;  4 nephews, Craig (Lorelei) Vanderheide, Charlie and Judah, Jason (Kim) Siemens, Elika and Maya, Jeremy (Delayne) Siemens, Zoey and Griffin, and Riley (Teagan) Siemens, Jesse and Sullivan. Christine was predeceased by her mother, Maria in 1981; her father, Carel in 2008.

A Celebration of Christine’s Life is being planned at a later date.

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

1 Thessalonians 4:13+14 NIV

He takes care of His people like a shepherd. He gathers them like a lamb in His arms and carries them close to Him.

I met Chris on our first day of Grade 6. I have many happy memories of being at her house, often after school for a sleepover. We kept in touch, since graduation and visited when she lived above the bakery in Virden, camping in BC, as well as at her home in Calgary. Recently we talked via messenger and prayed together. I know we will meet again someday because of our faith in Jesus. Until then I won't forget her and it just won't seem right to not call her in early May.

I first met Chris and Erika in the Bahamas in the early 90's on one of thier vacations. It was almost immediate that both Chris and Erika made it feel like we had known each other forever. Thats who Chris was, funny, caring, a true friend and she loved her pets. Chris will be missed dearly by not just myself but everybody who knew her. Rest in peace my friend.

I had the pleasure of serving as Chris’s optometrist for almost 30 years. Chris had a great sense of humor, and was always up for a laugh.. We shared many giggles, little jokes, and I always looked forward to her and Erica’s visits to brighten up my day. My condolences to Erica and the rest of the family. She will be missed.
