Annette Marie Wilson (Laverdiére)

April 29th, 1938 - July 21st, 2025
Annette Marie Wilson (Laverdiére)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Annette Marie Wilson on Monday, July 21, 2025 at the age of 87 years.

Annette was born on April 29, 1938, in Girouxville, Alberta, and spent her early years growing up on the family farm with her parents, Malvina and Joseph Laverdière while attending school at the local convent with her siblings. She had nine siblings: Irene, Leo, Lillian, Roger, Yvette, Lucille, Aimee, Jeanne and Aline, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Brent Allan Wilson, seven of her nine siblings, and her parents.

Annette married Donald Archie Wilson on February 10, 1962, in Red Deer, Alberta. Don and Annette were married for 63 years. She will be forever missed by her loving husband Don and two remaining daughters, Lisa van Oosten (Paul) and Anita Van Der Voort (Tom).

Her seven grandchildren are Shaun Poburan (Sarah), Kristen Poburan (Josh), Dawn Blondeau (Dustin), Ashley Langdown (Cory), Melanie Ouelett (Jesse), Megan Wilson, and Cody Wilson.

She also leaves behind eleven great-grandchildren: Mason, Marcus, Riley, Riley, Jeffery, Jessica, Hunter, Hailey, Alexis, Bentley, Jaxson.

Annette’s family would like to express their heartfelt Gratitude to the care home staff of Bethany Riverview in Calgary, Alberta for their loving compassionate care.

We celebrate a life well-lived. Annette was tiny but fierce and unafraid to try anything. She started out learning English as a second language as an adult, which led to teaching for a short period of time. Later, she trained and became a hairdresser. The family moved to Vermilion, Alberta, where she operated a daycare out of her home while still doing hair when her children were small. She worked at a local ladies’ fashion store, a drugstore, a liquor store, and read meters for the power company. She also taught microwave cooking at the local college. Annette and Don moved to Edmonton, Alberta for a few years, then relocated to Surrey, BC, where Annette managed a mobile home park and pursued many other endeavors before retiring in 2002.

Annette and Don loved to travel and, in their retirement, journeyed all over Canada and the U.S. in their motorhome. They travelled all over Canada spending time with family but cherished spending time in Joussard, Alberta.

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Annette loved to play cards and games. She was often accused of cheating which she strenuously denied which led to much laughter.

We also have memories of Annette laughing and giggling with her sisters while cooking together – which may have included a glass of wine that would make them giggle harder. Large family gatherings brought her immense joy.

We all miss Annette’s home-cooked meals and delicious baked goods, along with her love of sewing and knitting.

Annette gave selflessly to everyone who knew her. Annette was loved by many.

In keeping with Annette’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Which one of the aunties would laugh harder? Tante Aline was tough to beat but it was great music to listen to even though we most often didn't even hear the punch lines or be old enough to understand them from the little kids table.
