Anton Marjan "Mario" Praprotnik

Mario was born in Jesenice, Slovenia on January 12, 1944. He died on September 30, 2025 at Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary at the age of 81.

He will be lovingly remembered and very sadly missed by his best friend and partner of 21 years, Carol Ehrenreich-Hansen.

Mario was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Emil, a dentist killed in a tragic car accident in Slovenia.

Mario enjoyed nature, the mountains, skiing, hiking, and as an avid musician, playing the trumpet and ballroom dancing. His open mind led him to many other interests, too. He lived in Slovenia, Switzerland and Austria before coming to Canada. He was a world traveller who could speak 5 languages and loved pouring over National Geographics and other informative magazines and books.

Mario first visited Canada when his musical group was invited to play at Expo Montreal which led to other visits to Canada and culminated in his living here and becoming a Canadian citizen. He loved life, and both Slovenia and Canada were very dear to him.

We would like to thank the Scenic Grande Retirement Home for their care and great kindness towards Mario, in particular the director Aleksandra Susak and her team, and Dr. Borgstrom and the medical staff. The general staff at the Scenic Grande have all contributed so much, also. Our sincere appreciation goes out to you all, including the new assisted living friends Mario made during his stay there.

In addition to the above, we would like to thank Alberta Health and all the other doctors, nurses and staff involved at the Foothills Medical Centre along with those at the Rockyview Hospital for the great kindness shown to Mario.

A private ceremony will be held in the near future to celebrate Mario’s life.
