Barry Mawer

July 20th, 1952 - September 12th, 2025
Born in Calgary, Alberta
Passed in Calgary, Alberta
Barry Mawer

Following a short and hard fought battle with cancer, Barry passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family and the strength of his faith on Friday, September 12 at the age of 73. Barry’s strong faith was the foundation to being a cherished husband to Jackie for 48 years and loving father (hero) to children, Crystal, Cory, and Dana. He loved sports, music and helping those he loved. Barry was always there to support family and cheer on children and grandchildren, while travelling great distances to do so.

Barry loved the sunshine, always sporting a healthy tan from the many adventures that he took with his travel partner Jackie and family whenever they were available. He loved loud music and attended many concerts, checking off most of the bands on his bucket list. We made fabulous memories that we will cherish for eternity.

Barry wore many hats, such as; drummer, Air Cadet, gas jockey, millworker, butcher, welder, coach, cement pumper, working his way into management. He enjoyed an early retirement at the age of 58 and spent a lot of time on the golf course.

Barry’s commitment to family and the love of a good time had him at every wedding and family reunion. You would find him sharing stories, jokes, dancing and spreading good cheer. Barry's listening ability helped people feel confident and at ease. His generosity held no bounds and his BEAR HUGS will be missed by all who were fortunate to call him family or friend.

Barry is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jackie; daughters, Crystal (Archie Pike), Dana (Archie Kossigbo); daughter-in-law, Naomi Krawiec (Jason); grandsons, Jonathon, Marcus, Grayson, Hendrix, and Onyx; granddaughters, Cadence, Lakelyn, Paxton, and Sterling. He is also survived by his brother, Kenny Mawer (Linda); sisters, Cheryl Bergevin, Corinne Haack, Sandy MacDonald (Don), Judy Skrenek; sister-in-laws, Shawn Mawer (Dale), Penny Di Iorio (Lorenzo), Charmaine Dittrick; mother-in-law, Natalie Alfred, brother-in-law; Danny Alfred (Debbie) as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

Barry was predeceased by his son, Cory; granddaughter, Rosary; father, Edward; mother, Vivian; brother, Gary; father-in-law, Jack; and brothers-in-law, Réal, Murray, Paul; and niece, Aspen.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Saint Mary’s Catholic Parish, 10 River Heights Dr., Cochrane, Alberta, on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM with luncheon to follow.

Crystal,

I'm so sorry to hear about your father's passing. From the moments I met him in our high school days, I remember him as a kind and doting father whose warmth left a lasting impression. I'm thinking of you and your family during this difficult time and sending condolences to you, your mother, and all who loved him. His legacy lives on in the beautiful person you are.

With love,

Mr. Mawer,

Robbed
Short changed
Shock
Anger
Gutted

These are but a few of the reactions I have felt since I learned of your illness & passing.

I am unable to fathom how your most loved are feeling.

I am grateful for the years I did have you in my life.

Unfortunate for us all that your job here on earth came to its end so abruptly & before any of us were ready to say “goodbye”.

Our memories made together will be treasured.

You will forever be in our hearts.

Heavenly Father, the death of our dear Barry has filled our eyes with tears and our hearts with sorrow. We are distressed by the mysteries of Your Providence. As Your children we want so much to say “not my will but thine be done”, but at times we find it difficult to do. Forgive us and help us, we pray to You by Your Holy Spirit to accept Your ways as always best. Apply to our wounded hearts, the healing touch of Your precious promises and let us soon experience its power. Teach us not to mourn as those who have no hope. Wipe away the tears from our eyes that we may be able to see through the mess, beyond death and the grave, to the resurrection and life assured by the glorious victory of our savior, Jesus Christ. May the passing of our dear Barry remind us that we too are but a pilgrim, and a stranger on earth. Grant us the grace to love less and less the things that are material and temporal, and to love more and more the things that are spiritual and eternal. Teach us to number our days to apply our hearts to the wisdom taught by Jesus Christ that He is the way and the truth, and the life and that no one comes to Him but through You, Amen.

Uncle Barry will always hold a special place in my heart. His faith, humour, and support for my mom (Cheryle) will leave an impression that I will cherish forever. Uncle Barry's legacy lives on in all the ways he shaped the people around him, he made you better by just being in the same room My back hasn't been the same since his hug during his last visit to Victoria a few years ago. If you were lucky enough, you made a connection with uncle Barry, with his quiet confidence and intimidating(he tried) stare will live in forever. Aunty Jackie and cousins I am so sorry for your loss, may God bless you all and uncle Barry's legacy live forever. This quote is so uncle,
"I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain"

God sure works in mysterious ways. We would never had expected be reconnected to you after 30 + years, by chance, on a golf course in Phoenix. We sure had some fun times, sometimes maybe even causing some mayhem, in our early High Level days. We will now cherish the golf games, dinners, and the visits we have since together since . After our last golf game this past April, you gave us the biggest Bear hug, and we agreed to meet again. Sadly, it will not be the way we had planned, but Rest in Peace our friend, until we meet again.
Love and prayers
