Benjamin (Benny) Schnieder

We are heartbroken to share that Benjamin Tyrone Joseph Schnieder; known to the many he loved as “Benny” passed away suddenly on Friday, July 4th, 2025. His unexpected passing has left a deep and painful void in the lives of those who loved him-especially his two children, Bella (14 yrs) and Benson (15 mos).

Born on March 28th, 1986, in Ottawa, ON, Benny arriving 6 weeks early, proved his zest and fight for life right from the start. There wasn’t a day that Benny didn’t try to make the most of right up until he embarked on his final adventure in Medicine Hat, AB at the age of 39.

He is survived by his partner, Crystal Mickle and her daughter, Jayda; who brought immeasurable joy to his life. His legacy continues through his proudest accomplishment: his two children, the spirited Bella Palmer and the ever-curious Benson Schnieder; and their incredible moms, Paige Palmer and Holley Sullivan; Benny's mother, Cheryl Schnieder; his aunt, Sandra; and his siblings, Kathryn, Jesse, and Logan, will miss the never-ending tales of his humorous endeavours.

Benny was a man who lived life in the fast lane, except for when it came to his passion for helping others. He was the kind of guy who would stop to help you change a tire in a snowstorm, and then make you laugh about it. He had a heart as big as his sense of humor, and a spirit as free as the open road he loved to drive. No matter if you knew Benny for 5 minutes or 5 years, he was someone who was impossible to forget, and a man who never gave up on those he truly loved.

Benny's affinity for the outdoors was only matched by his affection for his three furry partners in crime, Chili, Oreo, and Nova. In his eyes, a day spent without a dog was like a morning without coffee – unthinkable. His love for hot tubs was almost as well-known as his jokes, believing that a good soak could cure almost anything, except, perhaps, his notorious inability to resist a second helping of dessert.

Those who knew Benny will remember him as devoted father, an unforgettable soul, and a man who never turned his back to someone in need. His adventurous spirit led him to explore every nook and cranny of the world around him, always with a twinkle in his eye and a story to tell.

Benny's life was a collection of interesting tales, spirited escapades, and lots of laughter. He was the sort of man who would turn up at a fancy dress party as himself because, as he’d say, "You can't improve on perfection." His departure leaves behind a treasure trove of memories that will continue to bring smiles to the faces of those who were lucky enough to share in his journey.

In honour of Benny’s wishes there will be no traditional funeral. Instead, we will be holding a Celebration of Life in Calgary, AB this fall to remember and cherish the beautiful moments he shared with us all. Specifics will be announced in the coming weeks. We are raising funds to help cover the costs associated with Benny’s Celebration of Life, and - most importantly – to provide long-term support for Bella and Benson as they grow up without their dad.
