In Memory
Betty Melik

Betty Melik lived a long life of 84 years, sadly passing away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Roxane West, John Bennet, and Mary-Jane Myers; her grandchildren, Brennan, Eric, Storm, and Sam; and her great-grandchild, Jacob.
Her spouse, Leonard, and her grandchild, Andrew, predeceased her.
During her time as a nun, she was known as Sister Betty, a role she embraced before becoming a third-order Franciscan. Her vibrant personality and feisty nature endeared her to many at Abrio Place.
She grew up in Nova Scotia and found many people who shared her love of the culture before moving to Vancouver to find new opportunities. After discovering her passion in theology, she moved with her daughter Roxane to Airdrie, helping not only to celebrate the gospel with others but also to help her family in her feisty way.
After the tragic loss of her grandson, Betty channeled her grief into action. She threw herself passionately into Victim Services and Operation Life Savers, striving to educate on safety and support others in their need.
We are deeply grateful to Abrio Place and its residents for providing Betty with a vibrant and supportive community, Linda Sefcik and the Church of Jesus Church community for supporting the family in more ways than one, and Didsbury Hospital for their exceptional care and support during Betty's final moments.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St Paul's Church, Airdrie, AB on Friday, April 11th, at 1 p.m.
