Bill Sheehan

July 3rd, 1934 - December 2nd, 2024
Bill Sheehan

Bill Sheehan passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at the age of 90 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, MaryAnne; his 4 children, Richard (Loree), John (Tracy), Debbie (Kerry), Mark (Sue); and brothers, Robert (Andrea), and Pat (Judy). He was known as Papa Bill to 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Clem and Margaret; older sister, Mary; nephew, Lance and brothers-in-law, Jimmy and Buck.

As an Olds College School of Agriculture graduate, Bill’s life was farming. However, his passions were firearms, hunting, fishing, camping, curling and traveling with friends. A faith enriched man that contributed to his church, family, and community. He was all about giving back, whether as a 4-H leader, Minor Hockey coach, committee member or chair of the Ag Service board, County of Mountain View Summer games committee, Founder Carstairs Gun Club, Carstairs Museum board, Carstairs Rural Rec Board, Carstairs Ag Society, Carstairs Arena Committee, Old Rifle Range, Olds College Alumni, St. Agnes Parish Council, or Carstairs Seed Cleaning Plant board, he poured his energy into making the community a better place.

Some proud moments included managing the successful Alberta Summer Games in 1983, gold medal wins at numerous Summer Games, being awarded the Volunteer of the Year for Alberta, published story in Outdoor magazine and the famous homemade raft trip on the Mighty Peace. The moments that really made his heart swell were watching and encouraging his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to do their best in whatever interested them.

Dad was a very social person and could strike a conversation with anyone, had a dry sense of humor and could tell stories with impeccable detail for hours. He had an incredible memory for history and facts so was a killer at Jeopardy.

A special thank you to all his friends, caregivers and family that made his 90 years so fulfilling.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at St. Agnes Parish in Carstairs, on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 11: 00 AM with interment at Carstairs Cemetery. A Celebration of Life and Fellowship in the Carstairs Community Hall will follow at 1:00 PM.

We are sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. Bill’s greatest gift was his ability to make everyone he encountered feel special as he was always so interested in others. The wonderful part is he also sprinkled that ability amongst his offspring so that it can continue on blessing others!

My thoughts are with all of the family at this difficult time.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it to his service as I’m out of the country until the 14th but I’ll be thinking of you.

Uncle Bill was a wonderful man in so many respects. I don't think there is another way to put it and his passing is going to leave a big hole in all of us.
