Catherine Howes

Catherine “Cathy” Louise Howes (nee Allen), was born July 29th, 1956 in the Yukon’s capital of Whitehorse. She was the second out of 5 born to Lamona and Clarence. Cathy moved to Calgary permanently in 1974 to attend SAIT, graduating in 1976, after studying Hospitality & Tourism. Shortly after, she began working with Western Airlines, which later amalgamated into Delta Airlines. Cathy married her husband, Randy in 1996 and their daughter, Lauren, came into their lives in 2000. Cathy joyfully stepped away from her career to cherish the early years of raising her daughter. She later returned to the YYC Airport working for United Airlines and then the YYC Airport Authority before her much deserved retirement in 2019. Cathy loved to travel, ski snow capped mountains and adventure to every corner of the earth. She was known as a generous, gentle and kind woman. She would pet any dog and hold any baby that came across her path. She was known for her 40+ years of unfaltering dedication to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and was a proud parishioner of St. Marks Parish. On Saturday, February 21st, Cathy was called home to be with her Lord. In heaven she was greeted by her father, Clarence and many other family members. Cathy is lovingly remembered by her mother, Lamona; husband, Randy; daughter, Lauren; sisters, Betty (Mike), Audrey (Tom), Trish (Kerry); and brother, Jim (Glenna).

In lieu of flowers, Cathy’s family requests that donations be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in her name. A gift of time in service to others is also deeply encouraged, as Cathy believed that showing up for those in need was one of the most meaningful ways to love.

Cathy’s family wants to express their sincere appreciation for all of Cathy’s healthcare team at the Peter Lougheed Centre who ensured her comfort and dignity was of the utmost importance, every step of the way.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Marks Catholic Church, 5552 Madigan Dr NE, Calgary AB on Saturday, March 7th, at 1:00 PM.

I meet Cathy at a St.Vincent de Paul training session last year. She was so cheerful, informative and her genuine love for the Lord and her volunteering at church was an inspiration for all of us at the table. She will be truly missed by everyone., she was a HUGE help to our chapter at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer parish.
Condolences to the family, treasure the members.

I am so saddened by the loss of Cathy. I loved her patience and dedication to those in need, in her community. St Vincent de Paul has lost a dedicated Member and leader. I will miss her insights, warmth and friendship. Good bye my friend. May you rest in peace knowing you answered the Call - Here I am Lord, as you served the poor and was a light in this world.
