Christian Cabelguen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christian Marcel Pierre Cabelguen, on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at the age of 77.

He will be profoundly missed and remembered by his loving wife of 51 years, Gloria Cabelguen; daughter, Kimberly (Aaron); son, Shawn (Carley); five wonderful grandchildren, Kyran, Dominique, Graydon, Carter and Payton; brothers, Jacques, Philippe, Serge (Tony), Raymond; sister, Monique (Ron); many nieces and nephews and other extended family members. He is predeceased by his parents, Pierre and Carmen Cabelguen; brother, Michel; sisters-in-law, Elaine, Kerri and Barb.

Christian was a caring and loving man who would welcome anyone and everyone into his life and his home with open arms and would help anyone who would ask without a second thought. His smile would light up the room and any photo he was in.

His number one love was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he looked forward to every minute he was able to spend with them. He loved spending holidays, having bbq's, going on camping trips, or going on outings with the family, but would be happy with even just a quick visit. He found great joy in gardening and had a passion for flowers. His Christmas lights display was the talk of the community and eagerly awaited by all each year. His fish tank was something that brought him peace and enjoyment, and friends and family knew who to go to for any work needed on their vehicle. He also cherished his morning coffees at his local Tim Hortons where some wonderful friendships were made.

He devoted his career of 33 years to the Canadian Armed Forces serving with 1PPCLI and the Airborne Regiment. He did 3 tours with the United Nations and was stationed in numerous provinces throughout Canada. He received the Order of Military Merit by the Governor General of Canada in 2001. He spoke highly of his career with the Military long after his retirement.

His energy and love for life was contagious. He made everyone believe that "It's gonna be a lovely day".

The family wants to send out a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Rockyview Hospital for showing Christian such kindness and respect for his time spent there.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made in Christian’s honour can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Centennial Calgary Branch #285; www.rcl285.ca (there are no tax receipts available).

A Celebration of Life for Christian will be held at Royal Canadian Legion Centennial Calgary Branch #285, 9202 Horton Road SW, Calgary, AB on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 11:00am - 3:00pm
