Clara de Groot

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clara de Groot on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the age of 83.

Clara is now reunited with her beloved husband Henry de Groot, who predeceased her. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Daniel (Jennifer) and their son, Joshua de Groot, her daughter, Teresa (Shawn) Phillips and their children, Jace Phillips and Nolan Phillips, her daughter, Yvonne (Gordon) Jones and their children, Nicolas de Groot and Ashley Jones. Clara is also survived by her sister, Diane Bennett, and her brothers, Henry de Boer and Joe de Boer. She was predeceased by her parents, Betty and George de Boer, and her sister, Henderika de Boer.

Clara worked for many years as a meat wrapper. She enjoyed baking, needlepoint, camping, and attending church. She was proud of her Dutch heritage and loved her traditional Dutch foods, especially a slice of bread topped with hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles). Clara also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, from her favourite KFC chicken, to going out for a meal or coffee with family and friends.

Clara will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family will forever cherish the memories and special moments they shared with her.

A funeral service celebrating Clara’s life will be held at East Olds Baptist Church 28032 AB-27, Torrington, AB on Friday, October 30, 2026, with Pastor James Rosenberger officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with viewing available until 10:45 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
