Clifford Thompson

Clifford “Cliff” Thompson was born on July 27, 1941, in a small schoolhouse near Morrin, AB. He was raised on the family farm in Rumsey by his parents, Jim and Olive, alongside his brothers Doug and Stan, and sister Linda. Those early years helped shape the hard work ethic and family values he carried throughout his life.

Cliff married the love of his life, Agnes Sandberg, in 1961, and together they built a life centered on family. They raised four children, Cheryl (Joe), Beryl (Curt), Darcy (Caren), and Chris (Michelle). Over the years, the family grew to include seven amazing grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of great pride and many chuckles.

Cliff began his career with Alberta Gas Trunk Line (Nova) in 1960, where he worked for 36 years until his retirement in 1996. During that time, he built not only a long and respected career, but also lifelong friendships that extended well beyond the workplace. Oh, if the camping trips could talk.

In retirement, Cliff and Agnes spent their winters in Arizona and summers at Dickson Dam, while making their home in Didsbury. He enjoyed time with friends, whether at the lake, on the golf course, or over a Tuesday afternoon beer.

Cliff had a remarkable ability to turn hobbies into true craftsmanship. Over the years he had an appreciation for photography, building and flying model aircraft, and developed a special talent for woodworking in the art of intarsia. There would be few among his family and friends who do not have one of Cliff’s creations proudly displayed in their homes.

Known for his quick wit and genuine nature, Cliff was steady in his ways and appreciated for his straightforward honesty and strength of character. In the years following Agnes’ passing, a sign hung on his door reading, “A big piece of my heart lives in heaven”. We feel comfort knowing they are together again.

Cliff passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026, in Didsbury, with his family by his side.

He will be remembered for his dedication to family, his friendships, and the lasting mark he left on those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers a donation in his memory can be made to The Salvation Army, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation
