Cory Shane Bergen

September 18th, 1971 - February 16th, 2025
Cory Shane Bergen

We are saddened to announce the passing of Cory Bergen suddenly but peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the age of 53. Cory was the truest form of the all-around good guy. He came across as very quiet but as soon as people got to know him, they loved him. He had a way to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Cory worked hard at work and worked harder at home when needed. When he wasn’t working, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures, he loved spending time with Sherri and the kids and was sure to make every moment count, during the summer days he loved camping, hosting firepit gatherings with the best fires ever, he enjoyed golfing, boating and fishing (as long as he didn’t have to touch the fish), and had an odd love of music covers that anyone who really knew him could appreciate. Watching sports was another joy, and he found creative ways to incorporate watching a big game on the big screen into his camping and firepit gatherings, so all around felt welcome to join in his experience.

Born on September 18, 1971, in Winkler, Manitoba, and survived by his parents, Cornie and Doreen Bergen of Plum Coulee Manitoba and his sisters, Janessa (Justin) of Morden, Manitoba and Julie (Pat) of Plum Coulee Manitoba. Cory was a family man and loved the people in his life always prioritizing their wants and ensuring those around him were well taken care of. He leaves his best friend of 31 years (wife of almost 25 years), Sherri Bergen of Carstairs; along with their son, Colton of Calgary; and daughter, Courtney (Thayne) of Airdrie. Cory also leaves an extended family and wide circle of friends all of whom will grieve his loss but will lean on each other for strength during this difficult time. Cory was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Maria Scully, who he had a special bond with.

Cory was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a treasured friend. Although his absence leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of all who knew him, his kindness, generosity, and warmth will live on in the memories shared between his family and friends. A Celebration of Cory’s Life will be hosted at a later date . In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in Cory’s name to Canadian Heart and Stroke foundation, www.heartandstroke.ca

Cory and the whole Bergen family are good people. Truly one of a kind. I met Colton through a mutual friend and Colton's family was incredibly welcoming and loving. They took us on the most memorable camping trip of my entire life. To this day I recall that trip and remember it as one of the best summers I've ever had. Thank you for everything Cory. Thank you for everything to the Bergen family.
