Craig Poffenroth

Craig Harvey Poffenroth was born on July 18th, 1964 in Calgary and passed away at his home in Calgary on Monday, August 21st , 2023. Craig was currently employed in the Marketing Department at the University of Calgary and enjoyed being at his alma manta where he had received his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1986. Throughout his working career he was employed with Procter and Gamble, Molson Canada, Campbell’s Soup Canada, Parkland Fuel Industries, and Black Swan. Craig kept in touch with people he met during these years. Craig was a loving son, to Marilynn and Raymond Poffenroth and will be missed by his brothers, Russell (Brenda) and Trevor (Annette); nieces and nephews, Dayne (Ariane), Scott (Megan), Ashley, Jager, and Slater; and his great nieces and nephews, Kamryn, Avery, Evynn, Corson, and Dawson. Craig enjoyed family gatherings with his aunts, uncles, cousins, and “second” cousins. He was predeceased by two uncles and an aunt, and by his grandparents, Walter and Irene Poffenroth, and Gordon and Catherine Beattie.

Craig was a member of the Irricana 4H Beef and Photography Club and excelled in leadership skills and public speaking through his experience, and was privileged to judge at 4H events. He was also honored when asked to offer a toast at family events and often gave presentations while employed with the above-mentioned companies. Craig offered support and mentorship to young adults who were preparing their resumes for various opportunities.

Craig figure skated, curled, played volleyball, badminton, baseball, and was on the track team during his Kathyrn and Beiseker school years, and later expanded his sports activities to roller skating, and tennis.

While attending university, Craig spent his summer breaks (1982-1985) employed at Calaway Park and this experience gave him many of his people skills.

Craig loved to travel the world and meet new friends. His most recent trips to Puerto Vallarta twice each year gave him the opportunity to practice his Spanish, walk on the beach, and sample the Mexican food.

We are very thankful that he led an interesting and fulfilling life and we will all miss him very much.

Craig was a member of the Irricana United Church (Highway 567 and Range Road 274) where a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 at 1:00pm. Reception to follow at Keoma Hall (112 – 6 Street Keoma, AB).

The family thinks Craig would appreciate donations to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.

I was so saddened to hear of Craig's passing. Craig and I worked closely together at the University of Calgary. He was my mentor and strongest advocate throughout my first job in the marketing field, and he was always looking for a way to help me achieve my career goals. I attribute a lot of my success in my field to the knowledge he passed on to me, and I was sure to tell him that every chance I got. He loved to chat about his family and travels during our long catch ups and was one of the most positive people I have had the pleasure of getting to know. He left his mark on the world and the people in it, and he truly left this place better than he found it. You will be deeply missed, Craig.

I was heartbroken to hear about Craig's passing. I was a close friend, office mate and teammate of Craig's at the University of Calgary. He made everyday at work a little more interesting, and at times, a little less stressful. He was smart, funny, knowledgeable and wasn't afraid to speak his mind. I'm going to miss his witty banter, our impromptu chats in the office and walks around campus, his support and encouragement and especially his sense of humor and his deep dedication to UCalgary students. His loss will be felt greatly. My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the entire Poffenroth family, may you find peace and comfort in your memories of Craig.
