Dale Yost

January 17th, 1955 - April 24th, 2024
Dale Yost

Dale left to be with his Saviour on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 with the glow of the sunset and gospel music playing in the background. Dale was 69 years old, surrounded by his children and wrapped in their arms at the time of passing. Dale was cultured, wise, well traveled, kind, responsible, accepting, humorous, hard working, caffeinated, and frugal.

Dale was born to Margaret and Allan Yost in Trochu, Alberta on January 17, 1955. The oldest of four. Dale attended Red Deer College and the University of Calgary. He graduated with his Bachelor of Education, with a major in music and a minor in math. He taught for the Red Deer school division for two years, moving on to teach in High Level, while also working at M.R.S Aviation for 3 years. He spent his next 25 years teaching at Bentley School, as well as buying the Lucky Dollar grocery store in 1984. He then built the AG Foods in 1991 and sold it 11 years later in 2002. After that Dale decided he wanted to travel the world while continuing to teach. In 2009 he took a job at Canadian International School Abu Dhabi, spending the next 12 years teaching overseas. Throughout all these years he continued to teach piano. He would go on to visit dozens of countries, seeing over half the world. He retired in 2021 and moved back to Canada to be with his family.

Dale was the most incredible father to three children, Branton (Isabel), Kristin (Jay), and Kalin (Clint). He was the most loving, educating, and encouraging Papa to Jayda, Tyson, Kenzie, Kaydance, Khloe, Myla, Havyk, Nova, Halo and Mrazyk. Dale’s world revolved around his family and he was the center of theirs. He is predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Allan Yost, and brothers-in-law, Tom Steeves and Cyril Reid. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Cheryl, Glen and Dianne; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was loved by many friends from all over the world and we will always be grateful for the impact he had on so many lives.

A funeral service for Dale will be held at Sylvan Lake Alliance Church on Tuesday, May 7th at 1:00 PM.

We could not have asked for a better neighbour than Dale. Many chats about gardening & life while we were all trying to get yard work done. A quick hi would turn into a 1/2 hour visit easIly. Always quick to offer a hand & keep an eye on our place when we were not there. It was fun watching him transform his yard into the oasis he envisioned. He spoke often of his kids & grandchildren. We miss him already. Condolences to his family on the loss of their amazing Dad. RIP Dale❤️

Fortunately I meet him when I visited Canada. One of his friend referred me. He picked me from airport which is 3 hours he didn't even hesitate. He shared his room with me and when I was there he showed me everything even his family. He taught me so much in life. And I shared my life experience with him. He was so happy for me I even told him to come to India. He said he will visit this year but unfortunately.. I can't even imagine this till now. He is a strong person he have seen so many ups and downs. May your soul rest in peace Dale Yost. Miss u. Love from Jay

Mr. Dale, as his students called him at CIS Abu Dhabi, was a kind and generous man. He taught my son Hamza three years ago and made a significant impact on him and his fellow classmates. We will always remember his grace, kindness and gentle nature. May he rest in eternal peace.

I have many special and unique memories of Dale and Jo-Anne during our time together in High Level and especially your kindness to us while in Didsbury in a time of need. The hours Dale and I spent playing Triple Action on his Intellivision, playing with the Poms, and just talking together as couples during times when one or the other of us needed some encouragement. Dale's creativity and musical ability is remembered as well along with that giant grand he insisted on playing in Didsbury. We had a lot of fun together and it has always been missed in the intervening years, and now even more so.

Dale was someone who always saw the good in everyone. He had a big heart, plenty of time to listen to people and always gave great advice. He was one of the very first people I met when I arrived in Abu Dhabi. His passion for life and travelling will never be forgotten and he will always be remembered by everyone whose lives he touched. Rest in peace Dale. You will be missed greatly.

Just wanted to share some memories of Dale from back in 2012 when we met through the Couchsurfing community in Abu Dhabi. While we weren't super close, we had some good times together - gatherings, camping trips, you name it. Dale was actually the one who awarded me as a super host on Couchsurfing, which meant a lot to me. He was always so friendly and kind, the kind of person who everyone loved being around. His energy was infectious, and he was just a blast to hang out with. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends. He was truly a wonderful human being.

Sleep tight to one of my absolute ,favourite people in this world Dale Yost. 💔You were the first couch surfing friend I met in Abu Dhabi back in 2008! I went to a meet up on my own and you welcomed me soo graciously with your friendly and humble Canadian way! Almost a decade of great CS events brought is together regularly for camping, dinners, parties and weekly Wednesday drinks in Pj’s! And oh man could this guy move his snake 🐍 hips on the dance floor and have a great time! Dale , I am soo deeply privileged to have met you and had you as a dear friend.

You were a humble, kind, gentle, adventurous and extremely down to earth guy who hosted the most amount of Csurfers I ever knew possible! You would have put them in the chimney if you could, just to help a person out as that’s the kind of guy you were! 🥰 You honestly were one of a kind! The way you lived your life is deeply inspiring and I will miss you dearly. You live on in my heart and my memories and I hope you are giving it socks on the dance floor up there! I will never , ever forget you Dale. My heart is so sore to hear of your passing.

Sleep well my forever precious friend and may your gentle soul rest in eternal peace x ❤️❤️

We are truly saddened by Dale’s passing. As neighbours across the road, we watched as he meticulously worked on his yard and took such pride to every little detail he added. Every garbage day, he would bring in his garbage can as well as his neighbour’s. We did not speak often but when we did, it was easy to see the kind and interesting person that he was. So sorry for your loss.

Dale was a special man. He had a wonderful way with people. His desire to meet and know new people was inspirational. He made my stay in the UAE more memorable. He introduced me to Somalian food, deep sea fishing, and water parks! Thanks for the deal on the old A4!

Dale was my teaching partner the first year I was in Abu Dhabi and shared many words of wisdom with me. I still remember all the time how he said that the kids who need love the most show it in the most unloving ways. He encouraged me to start each day offering a hug to some of my students with big feelings. It worked like a charm. He really helped to shape who I am as a teacher and I really admired how he invested in people. He’ll be missed by many for sure.

My deepest condolences to Dale’s family and friends. Dale introduced me to Couchsurfing more than a decade ago. I remember creating my CS profile on his couch. I always told everyone that Dale was my CS Dad whenever we were out and about. I met tons of great people because of him. We had great times during his time here in Abu Dhabi. From desert camping to CS Weekly Dinners, it's always fun having Dale around. He will be missed by many here in Abu Dhabi! Til we meet again Dale Yost ❤️

Dale was a great soul. I still can't believe he is not with us anymore. I was in constant touch with him in his last days through WhatsApp. I wish I could have seen him at least once, before this tragedy happened. We both were planning to meet this summer had the treatment gone well. I still have his house pictures that he sent me when we were in Abu Dhabi. At that time, I dreamt one day I would be able to visit his house, and even after coming to Canada, I kept on planning but I believe it's too late now. Dale, by all means, was a true friend. In Abu Dhabi, I was stuck somewhere and Dale helped me to get out of it. For that, I will always be in his debt.  Therefore, to all his children, please let me know if I could ever be able to reciprocate Dale's kind gesture.

Dale was cultured, wise, well travelled, kind, responsible, accepting, humorous, hard working, caffeinated, and frugal. All these words are absolutely true and I must say Dale was my greatest earning as a friend. After all, God gives us parents, siblings, jobs, etc., but if there is something we earn then it's a friend. I find myself very lucky that I earned Dale's friendship. Unfortunately, God makes very few people like Dale and therefore they are always missed. Wish I could have met you once. Gone to soon buddy! Om Shanti

It was truly a gift to have shared 11 wonderful years at Canadian International School alongside Dale. His warm and inviting nature eased the hearts of all who crossed his path. Dale's ability to effortlessly connect with others meant that he had a friend in every country he explored. Despite his many adventures, Dale made sure to return to Alberta each summer to be with his children and precious grandchildren, who he spoke of with immense pride.
Even after our time at CIS had finished. Dale continued to extend his warmth, sending thoughtful messages to ensure my well-being and happiness. He left a lasting impressions on everyone he met. Dale's radiant spirit, filled with optimism and love, remains a brilliant light . Although we will deeply miss him, Dale's legacy of warmth and positivity lives on in the hearts of those lucky enough to have known him. His fun loving spirit serves as a gentle reminder to approach each day with an open heart, embracing life with love and grace.
