Daniel Lawrence Herbert

It is with the utmost sorrow that the family of Dan Herbert announce his sudden and unexpected passing the morning of Monday, March 31, 2025.

Dan was born and raised in Calgary where he graduated from Forest Lawn High School. He spent many years working on the docks for Canadian Freightways before going back to school to take accounting. Upon graduation Dan started his new career with Renaissance Energy and remained through the acquisition by Husky Oil. He was thrilled to be retired by Husky in 2017 and Sue followed him into retirement in 2018. Dan’s life was filled with love, dedication, and a deep connection to family, friends and community. His impact on those around him was evident and his sense of humour was his trademark and touched many lives. He spent many a year on the side lines of various soccer games either as a coach or spectator. At one point, having six kids playing soccer at the same time; there were many nights and weekends spent at the Calgary Soccer Dome. Dan was heavily involved in the Airdrie Soccer Association and was one of the many people instrumental in the development of Monklands Soccer field in Airdrie. In their retirement he followed Sue in her dream to see more of the world and this is where they fell in love with cruising. He reluctantly agreed to the first one and then refused to get off the ship until the next one was booked. Along the way many close and much-loved friends were gathered; both Sue and Dan were truly blessed to have many become family.

Dan leaves behind his devastated wife, Sue; their children, son, Jordan (Cassandre; grandsons Matteo and Maxence); daughter, Sara (Ryan; grandchildren Marcus, Macy and Tatum), daughter, Michelle (Matthew; grandsons Rowan and Jace); son, James (Erica; granddaughters Sophia and Stella); daughter, Kate (granddaughter Jasmine); daughter, Justine (grandson Jayden) and son, Matthew. He also leaves behind his brother, Patrick (Ann); brother, Gordon (Marie); sister, Gail (Joe); brother, Rick (Madonna); brother, Robert; sister, Maryann; sister, Cathy (Dave) and sister, Surindee (Erich). Dan was predeceased by his parents, George & Lila Herbert and oldest son, Jared.

With his passing, the hole left in our hearts and in our lives is immeasurable. He will always be loved and his memory treasured.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dan’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, www.heartandstroke.ca

A Celebration of Dan’s life will be held at the Town and Country Centre, 275 Jensen Drive NE Airdrie on Wednesday, April 30th at 1:30 p.m. All are welcome to come and celebrate Dan’s life.

Jack was inspired by Dan to get involved and coach in Airdrie Aztec soccer. Dan was kind, funny and shared his vast knowledge of the sport and the community of Airdrie. He brought so much enjoyment to our lives through his love of the sport. Our daughter Ashley was coached and mentored by him and the Smith family is deeply saddened by his passing. Thank you Dan for all the enjoyment you gave to our family. Bless the Herbert family

As a kid, Dan and his kids were a huge part of my childhood. I have so many great memories of him as a soccer coach and a mentor, however I will always remember how his kindness and sense of humour made it feel as if we were part of his family. I appreciated how he would welcome people into a room and to his home with the same, genuine caring and ease. I know that he will be greatly missed. My heartfelt condolences to Sue and their extended families, and to all their friends at this difficult time.

I worked for Dan at Husky and it was such a pleasure to come in every day and see his. smiling face. He always seemed happy and eager to get everyone going. He had a wonderful sense of humour and it was obvious that he loved his family and was very proud of his many children. He was kind to everyone and his wonderful attitude was infectious. I feel very lucky to have known him. Sincerely, Birgit Broadbent

He was one of a kind. He made a room light up with laughter. We are thankful we had a chance to know and love Dan. Have some special times and holidays to remember. Going to miss his funny banter. So happy we met you and sue on that 2013 cruise and for being in our lives.

Dan and his wife Sue have been our next door neighbours since 2009. From the very beginning, it was clear that we were blessed to have such kind and genuine people living beside us. From day one, he brought laughter and joy into our lives with his quick wit and playful sense of humour. He was always ready with a wisecrack, a story, or a smile that could lift your spirits, no matter what kind of day you were having.

But beyond the jokes and the charm, Dan was one of the most generous and thoughtful people I’ve ever known. There was a warmth in the way he carried himself, a sincerity that made everyone around him feel at ease.

I miss walking out onto the driveway and not seeing him there, ready with a comment that would make me laugh or think.

Dan, you are deeply missed. Your kindness, your humour, and your friendship have left a lasting mark on all of us. Rest in peace, my friend. You will never be forgotten.

Sue, always know we are just a few steps away if you need anything.

Dan was one of kind. Truly a wonderful man whom I got to know over the many years with he and Sue as my best clients booking all of their travel through me. This love of travel we all shared grew into a friendship. I always enjoyed every minute spent with them and always got to experience Dan's sense of humor first hand. I cannot imagine that he will never walk into my office again with his grin on his face and pacing back and forth while Sue made all of the arrangements. He certainly filled a room! He will be missed. Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of Dan gone way too soon.
