Darren Jacob Wilkie

Darren Wilkie passed away Thursday August 22, 2024 at the age of 57 years old.

Darren is lovingly remembered by his wife Carla of 33 years, daughter Kyla (Trevor), granddaughters Emerson & Rylie, daughters Alyssa (Ryan) and Jenica (Nathan).

Darren will also be remembered by his mother Judy, sister Kim (Rich), brother Roger (Jana), sister-in-law Gwen (Darcy), brother-in-law Kurt (Tracey), as well as his beloved nieces and nephews.

Throughout his life nothing was more important to Darren than his family, especially his wife, daughters and granddaughters. He was the best girl dad. He also took great pleasure over the years in playing hockey, slow pitch, golfing, fishing and coaching his girl’s sports teams. You could often find him cheering on some of his favorite teams, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Calgary Flames and Toronto Blue Jays. Camping trips, family vacations and spending time at the lake were some of Darren’s most treasured times.

He enjoyed his work at AESO over the past 19 years and really appreciated the mentorship of his leaders and camaraderie of his coworkers.

At Darren’s request no funeral service will be held at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada.

Carla and Family,

I didn't know Darren all that well as our paths only crossed through coordinated work activities between AESO and BC Hydro. But what I did know was his character. A true gentleman. I'm so sorry to hear about his passing and wish to express my condolences on your loss. He'll be missed.

Very saddened to hear About Darren's passing! I worked with Darren and always enjoyed Interacting with him. I found him to be very easy to work alongside even on the most difficult issues. You knew Darren cared about the people he worked with and you could see that always in his eyes. I enjoyed the times that we could laugh together.

Will be thinking about his family.

I was deeply saddened by the news of Darren’s passing. He was a ‘rock’ at the AESO. Quiet, went about his work with character and professionalism. He had an infectious laugh.

His eyes always shone when he spoke of his family. His pride and the love he had for you all was so obvious.

He will be missed by family and friends alike. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Carla, Kyla,, Alyssa and Jenna. Even though Darren and I never get a lot of opportunities to work together often, on shift, and Carla you know the social disarray of shift work, when we did the conversations so often turned to the farming and how fast our respective families were growing. Darren was proud of you and your girls. He was so happy to get to welcome into your family circle Emerson and Rylie. He will be missed by so many.

Carla and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Darren was such a great guy. We had a very tight team at work and his sense of humour helped keep us loose. He could get fire in his eyes when he was advocating for what he believed, and could always be counted on to do the right thing. But my favourite part of our friendship was listening to Darren talk about his girls, my god he loved his family. His eyes just shone when talking about you. And when the grandkids came along, he was ecstatic.
Please know you all are in our thoughts and prayers.
