David Backstrom

David Backstrom of Olds, Alberta, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, in the Olds Hospital at the age of 87.  David was born on July 20, 1936, in Didsbury, Alberta.  He farmed in the Cremona area while working at the Olds Auction Mart and later sold the farm, moving to Olds while continuing to work at the Olds Auction Mart. 

David had a great love for horses and riding.  He found his long-term job of 30 plus years working at Boundary Ranch in Kananaskis Country.  He could be found taking out trail rides, driving a buggy with a wedding party, helping with a rodeo or running the barn.  On his days off, he could be found riding his horse or at a horse sale visiting with his friends.

He is lovingly remembered by Les Backstrom (Shirl), Terry Backstrom (Livi), Elaine Erickson (Norman), Stuart Backstrom (Jennett) and many great-nephews and nieces.  He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers and a sister. 

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers a donation in David’s name may be made to Boundary Ranch, 2 Guinn's Road, PO Box 44, Kananaskis Village, Alberta Canada T0L 2H0
