David Brian Fowlie

David Brian Fowlie of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the age of 73.

Born in Black River Bridge, NB, on March 2, 1951, he was the oldest son of the late Theodore and Alberta Fowlie.

Dave grew up on the family dairy farm, creating lasting memories with his siblings and friends. When he graduated, the draw of big city life landed him in Ottawa, ON where he embarked on the first half of his accomplished career, working in Property Management for O & Y Properties. In 1978, he accepted a transfer with the company to manage several buildings in downtown Calgary, AB. This is where he built his life. Over the next 20+ years, Dave formed many long, lasting business relationships and friendships that helped him transition into entrepreneurship when he formed Fowlie Enterprises Ltd.; a general contracting business he was proud to run with his brother, Gary Fowlie by his side, for another 20+ years. If his body allowed it, he would have still been working and running that business today.

Aside from his many work accomplishments, there was always time for fun! Dave became an avid skier, enjoyed deep sea fishing adventures and developed his biggest passion of all, golf. Never one to turn down a game, the links were his ultimate happy place. Dave could be seen a mile away in his fluorescent golf shirts, the brighter, the better. Some of our fondest memories were the Saturday ski trips to Fortress Mountain, winter skating in Esso Plaza’s frozen fountain, watching the Stampede Parade on the tallest ladders to be found, drinking giant slurpees before a WWE match in the living room and golf trips to San Antonio, TX. Dave worked hard so he could play hard and he always made sure everyone around him could partake in the fun. His generosity was felt by many.

Dave is lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Chantal Eastland (Michael) of Chestermere, AB and Andrea Fowlie (Vaden Somers) of Calgary, AB; his ex-wife, Diane Fowlie; 5 grandchildren, Rachael, Aislinn & Zachary Eastland, and Juno & Arlo Somers; 7 sisters, Carolyn, Sharon, Margaret, Lynda, Patti, Debby and Trudy; 2 brothers, Ralph and Kevin. He was predeceased by his parents, Ted & Bertie Fowlie; and brother, Gary Fowlie.

An extra special thank you to the exceptionally wonderful care team at Mayfair Care Center in SW Calgary where Dave spent the last 4 years receiving compassionate around the clock care and support. We will forever be grateful for the comfort and service provided by his nurses and the staff.

A celebration of life will be held at a later time and the details will be shared when it is scheduled.
