In Memory
Diane Monkman

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Monkman, born November 22, 1944. Diane lived a full, beautiful life—one marked by unwavering resilience, deep love, and the quiet strength that everyone who knew her admired.
Diane shared her life with her beloved husband, Ernest (Ernie) Monkman, and together they raised two children, Sherry and Leslie. She is lovingly remembered by her family members, daughter, Sherry Schmidt; son-in-law Brett; and grandchildren, Connor (Aly) and Calista Schmidt, who brought light, purpose, and joy into her world. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ernie and her cherished son Leslie.
Diane spent many treasured years in Loon Straits, where she and Ernie built a life deeply connected to the land—hunting, fishing, and trapping together. These memories became the stories she loved to share most, reminders of a life lived simply, proudly, and with great heart.
In her later years, Diane faced a courageous battle with cancer. She fought with grace and determination, showing the same strength that defined her entire life. When her health began to decline, Sherry brought Diane from Winnipeg to Airdrie, ensuring she was surrounded with comfort, dignity, and unwavering love. Diane spent her final moments embraced by her family—Sherry, Brett, Connor, and Calista—who were honored to be by her side.
Diane will be remembered for her kindness, her humour, her resilience, and above all, the immense love she poured into her family. Her legacy lives on in the stories she told, the traditions she cherished, and the hearts of all who loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
“What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose,
for all that we love becomes a part of us.
The people we carry in our hearts
stay with us in every step we take,
guiding us gently, loving us quietly,
and reminding us that love is stronger than time.”
