In Memory
Donald Anthony Southern

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, uncle, father, Donald A. Southern of Leduc County, at the Red Deer Hospice on Monday, March 17, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer.
Donald was born June 21, 1947 in Lamont, AB to Arnold and Ella Southern. Don attended school in Winfield, Lacombe and Sylvan Lake, finishing his schooling at NAIT. Don worked for I.B.M. for 40+ years. After moving to Leduc, he helped out with all aspects of farming around the community. Don played basketball and volleyball in school. He had a great passion for fishing. Don and his co-workers would go to Great Bear Lake on fishing excursions. He also liked doing cross stitching and making rugs out of binder twine.
Don will lovingly be remembered by his siblings, Doug Southern of Leduc County, Linda Southern and Vi Coleman and family of Red Deer, Susan Southern and family of Vanderhoof, BC; his children Lisa and family of Grand Prairie, Kevin and family of Tasmania; and Dave Hilman of Sylvan Lake, best friend for 50 years as well; as extended family and friends. Don was predeceased by his parents, Arnold and Ella Southern; two brothers, Arnold Jr. and David Southern, and nephew, Robert Watson.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date in the summer. Donations can be made to donors choice or to the family to help with honoring Don’s wishes of being laid to rest at Great Bear Lake, NWT. The family wishes to thank the Red Deer Hospice and Prairie Rose Cremation and Funeral Services.
