Donald Savage

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Don Savage. Don passed away peacefully at the age of 76 years following a herculean battle against aggressive prostate cancer.

Don was born in Carman, Manitoba, in 1949 to Doug and Elva Savage and grew up on the family farm in Elm Creek. His upbringing on the farm was the foundation for his life-long passion for agriculture and the cattle business.

Don moved to Alberta in 1975. In 1977 he met and married his wife of 41 years, Dianne. Don and Dianne moved to the family home in 1978, a home that Don loved very much and was fortunate to remain in until close to his passing.

Together Don and Dianne built Don Savage Auctions. Don was passionate about cattle sales management, auctioneering and cattle breeds. He felt grateful for his line of work and genuinely appreciated the folks he met along the way.

Don cherished his family and friends, was loyal, and could always be counted on. He was always up for a phone call or a visit and nothing made him happier than the connections and conversations he was fortunate to share with so many.

Don loved golf and after Dianne took up the hobby, they would golf together often. They enjoyed many years golfing at Woodside Golf Course, where they would both make many life long friends.

Don loved rock and roll music from a young age. Don sang like his favourite artists Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison. Don shared that often as a boy he would go out back behind the barn and belt out rock and roll tunes. Don had an incredible singing voice and his children and grandchildren were sang many beautiful lullabies.

Don enjoyed his time with the Masonic Lodge in Crossfield, his two terms as a councillor on Airdrie city council and time spent with the Airdrie and District Ag Society.

Don is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Dayna and husband Cam Hardy of Calgary, and Jaclyn and husband Mike of Airdrie; five special grandchildren, Madilyn, Nila, Norah, Kylan and Quinn; his brothers Rob (Barb) of Innisfail, Rod and (Helen) of Elm Creek, and Allan of Sundre; brother-in-law Norm (Wendy) of Edmonton, and Dale (Val) of Beiseker; as well as numerous nieces, nephews; and an amazing and merry gang of cousins and friends. Don was predeceased by his wife, Dianne; parents, Doug and Elva Savage; and in-laws, Gordon and Olive Morris.

We would like to thank the team at Concierge Care for the incredible care that Dad received at home. A special thank you to Annette and cherished caregiver Samantha.

If friends wish to make a donation in memory of Don, we ask you to consider a donation to the Airdrie & District Agricultural Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Town & Country, 275 Jensen Dr NE #103, Airdrie, AB on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.

I met Don almost two years ago when I had the privilege of visiting him in his home as his caregiver/companion. Right off the bat we had a connection and got along really well. I knew I was accepted by him when he told me I was a great driver when taking him to an appointment one time. And then to top it off he let me drive his Buick! Not once but three times! Don and I had a special relationship. I loved hearing his stories about his life, work and family. I met many of his old cronies (joking) and could see why he had so many great friends. Don, I was there until the bitter end, I will remember you forever and always. I miss you already so much! RIP my friend, RIP.
