Donald Walter Galenkamp

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Don Galenkamp, husband, father, grandfather, friend, on Friday, September 15, 2023 at the age of 79. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Carlene, and children; Glenn (Helen) and Christina (Stephen), and his treasured grandchildren; Jonathon Johnston (Kate), Matthew Galenkamp, Andrew Galenkamp (Sidra), Lillian Johnston (Ben), Christopher Galenkamp, Daniel Galenkamp, and Colin Johnston; his sister Shirley Galenkamp (Randy), and brothers Robert (Betty-Jo) and Gordon, and his brother-in-law Paul Carlson. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Myrtle (Harris) Galenkamp and his sister Marion Maxwell.

He worked tirelessly as an electrician, most recently for Fleischmann’s Yeast Ltd.  His joy was camping and boating at Shuswap Lake, especially when his children and grandchildren joined him and Carlene.  He was always considerate of others, even when his health failed and he tried so hard to be independent, he never wanted anyone to be inconvenienced by his needs.  He was a faithful follower of Jesus, and committed countless hours to the youth at his church.  He loved to laugh, and to eat!  Carlene always provided excellent, healthy meals, and he was the envy of the workplace lunch room with the very best lunches!  He rode his bike to work whenever possible.

Internment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery, 1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary on Thursday, September 21, at 12:00 noon with the Celebration of Life at Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel, 8241 – 31 Street SE, Calgary at 1:30 p.m.  All are welcome.

In leiu of flowers, please consider a donation to Calgary Seniors Resource Society, 3639 – 26 Street N.E., Calgary, T1Y 5E1 or www.calgaryseniors.org

I was just thinking about you and Don and got wondering. Vicky found this obituary and I am very sorry for your loss. I will always remember you both as great neighbours and friends.
