Doris Gudzowaty

It is with great sadness that the family of Doris Henrietta Gudzowaty (nee Wilson) announce her passing on Monday, August 28, 2023 in Olds, Alberta.

Doris was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on August 23, 1929, to Herman and Dagny (nee Thorson) Wilson.  During the war years she lived with her grandparents, John and Kari (nee Claven) Thorson.  While home visiting her parents in Marwayne, she met and married the love of her life, Michael Gudzowaty, on July 1, 1951.  In 1960 they moved to Wetaskiwin where they lived until 2016 when health care needs took them to Olds.

Doris was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and friend.  She was the quintessential homemaker.  Her artistic and creative talents were demonstrated in her sewing, upholstering, ceramics, porcelain doll lace draping, baking, gardening and in whatever she decided to do.

Doris will be lovingly remembered by her son, Maury Gudzowaty of Osoyoos; daughter, Kari Lynn McNeilly of Calgary; grandsons, Tyson McQuitty of Edmonton, Devin McNeilly of Calgary, Dakota Gudzowaty of Calgary, and Taylor Gudzowaty of Calgary. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Michael; parents, Dagny and Herman Wilson; infant son; and granddaughter, Jessie McQuitty.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion  Branch #105 in Olds, AB on Friday, September 22, 2023. Memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Thank you to the to all the staff and residents at Seasons Encore in Olds who have provided such a warm and loving home, and extended family to her.  The staff’s loving care has been a blessing to our family.  Thank you to the staff at Prairie Rose Cremation & Funeral Services for their professionalism in the final arrangements.

Aunty Doris will always be remembered for the best cinnamon buns ever, super delicious dinners and coffee. One was welcomed into their home with a wide smile and a hearty laugh. When we left after a visit one always felt loved and special.
She leaves us with many great memories, and we know that she and Uncle Michael are now dancing in heaven.
