Douglas Miller

After an unexpected battle with liver cancer, Douglas Raymond Miller, age 69, passed away peacefully at the Didsbury Hospital, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

Doug was born on October 21, 1956, in Didsbury, Alberta, where he grew up working on the family farm. During his younger years, Doug had a passion for curling and baseball, which led him to meet the love of his life, Susan. The two were married on April 5, 1987, and continued to grow the family farm while raising their two children, Matthew and Lindsay. While farming, Doug also pursued a career for several years, driving the garbage truck in the Town of Olds. 

Doug had a big heart for animals and was an avid sports fan. Nothing made him happier than settling into his favourite chair to watch his beloved Toronto Blue Jays, Calgary Stampeders, and Calgary Flames. Whether his teams won or lost, he always cheered them on with unwavering loyalty.

Doug was predeceased by his beloved wife, Susan; his parents, Raymond and June Miller; and his sister-in-law, Lucy Miller. He is survived by his loving children, Matthew and Lindsay (Fred); his siblings, Dennis Miller (Rose), Cathy Jorgensen (Rick), Debbie Miller, Bradley Miller (Sherry), and Jodi Cook (Allan). Doug will be fondly remembered by his in-laws, nieces, nephews, and numerous long-time friends and neighbours.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doug’s memory to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or Heart2U Didsbury Food Hampers (RR1, Site 14, Box 23, Didsbury, AB T0M 0W0).
