In Memory
Doug Montford

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Doug Montford on the evening of Thursday, April 30th at age 73. He passed at home where he and Yvonne created a wonderful life, filled with family and friends, lots of love and laughter and with a whole bunch of sass for good measure.
Doug was born in Fredericton to Bob and Ruby, the youngest of 7. Doug is lovingly remembered by his wife and partner, Yvonne of 48 years; daughters, Amanda, Melanie (Lance), and granddaughter Akira as well as David, Alexis and Rayann. He was a father figure and Papa to many people throughout his life. Doug is also survived by brothers, Bob and Terry (Lucie); and sister, Marsha (Jim); as well as several nieces, nephews and their families. Doug has been predeceased by his parents, siblings Barb, Ron and Fred; in laws, Judy, Phyllis and John; nephews, Scott and Wayne; as well as several aunts, uncles, friends and loved ones along the way.
Some childhood memories he fondly spoke of were the family’s model trains, playing Monopoly into the wee hours until somebody “flipped the table,” and the family adventure of moving to Calgary in 1965 in a cross-country convoy road trip with two cars bursting at the seams. The family settled into NW Calgary where Doug’s passion for the automotive industry was born influenced by his brothers and friends along the way. His interest in cars created new friendships and gave him a lifelong hobby of building cars, chasing parts, negotiating deals and created bonds lasting a lifetime.
Doug met Yvonne in 1978 and the rest was history. They began their family with daughters Amanda and Melanie. They welcomed others into their beloved family without hesitation creating a safe and loving home when they needed it most. Doug and Yvonne welcomed granddaughter Akira in 2006. She very quickly had them both wrapped around her little fingers becoming the new “favorite.”
Throughout his working life, he wore many hats. He was a partsman working primarily for Chrysler. He worked in construction with his dad and brothers. He owned and operated the old Mohawk in High River for a short period in the early 80s where he was a mechanic, a parts guy, and a petroleum transfer engineer. Doug discovered a new career in locksmithing inspired by his maternal Uncle Bud. He was proud to build his business in the community that he called home, serving it for about 35 years.
Doug enjoyed being part of various car clubs and organizations. In 2003, Doug and 47 car enthusiasts founded River City Classics. The club ended up hosting the biggest one day Show n‘ Shine in Western Canada.
Doug had a lifelong dream to drive Route 66 from start to finish in a custom built hot rod. In 2016 he and Yvonne crossed this iconic trip off their bucket list in their 1934 Ford Tudor.
Doug will be missed greatly and loved always. He will be remembered for his tender heart, integrity, deep loyalty, infectious belly laugh, quick wit and his great love for his family.
“When I grow up, I want to be a little boy.”
A Celebration of Life will be held for Doug on Saturday, May 23 at the Heritage Inn, High River. There will be a short cruise through town rain or shine and rust or dust beginning at 1pm. All are welcome to participate. The celebration of life will begin at about 2pm. Car show attire welcome!

I've known Doug since the Mohawk days, I think I was around 17yo, I'll always remember sitting in the garage talking cars, and having a cold beer, even when I was living in Calgary, or Mexico I always tried to get together with him and Yvonne whenever I
