November 30th, 1931 - July 27th, 2025
Edward Frederick Balleine

Edward Frederick Balleine, born on November 30th, 1931 in St. Peter’s, Jersey, Channel Islands, was sent to his eternal home on July 27th, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta, due to a lung infection. He was the beloved son of Elias John Balleine and Elsie May (Le Cornu). Survived by his loving sons, Edward John (Ward) and Alexander Kirk (Alex), he also leaves behind a granddaughter, Naomi Lynn Carlson and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Beveridge (Kirk).

Ed, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. Although Ed’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us.

Arriving in southern Ontario, Canada on April 4th, 1952, during Easter, he worked on various farms; mostly dairy. After serving a few years in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Ham Operator, he continued the journey across the country and settling in Calgary, where he met his wife of over 40 years. Once settled, he became a Maintenance Engineer and worked at the Holy Cross Hospital until his retirement.

Ed had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He was often spending his spare time researching topics of interest or reading books. He enjoyed genealogy, photography, astronomy and an overwhelming passion for assembling jigsaw puzzles. Freemasonry was also a huge part of his life, initiated into the Craft in 1978 and honored as a life member on January of 2019.

A Celebration of Life at the Bowmont Masonic Hall, 7704 – 39 Ave NW, Calgary, AB, will be conducted between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, on Friday, August 22nd, 2025 for all Masonic brethren, friends and family that may wish to attend within that time. He will then be interred by the family at Queens Park Cemetery beside his wife.

I met Ed long ago in Calgary as a distant cousin correlating our Jersey,CI family tree. Ed was so helpul in this endeavour. I wrote a book called Family Homes and Historic Monuments and Ed appears on one of the pages. This will be my happy memory of him and his joyful laughter.
Rest in Peace dear cousin.
