Emily Lappage

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful Emily Mae Lappage at age 31. Emily was a cherished mom, wife, daughter, sister, family member, and friend whose light touched all who knew her.

Emily was a tenacious warrior who fought a relentless battle with cancer. She was a paragon of strength. Through every challenge, her spirit grew stronger. Emily’s unwavering positivity and resilience was palpable. She had a way of making magic out of every day, especially for her two boys, Hudson and Nash. Emily was a proud mom and wife. She loved spending her days at the farm surrounded by her family.

Emily was radiant. Her smile brought joy to every day and to every person who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered by the way she made others feel - loved, cherished, and valued. Emily had a witty sense of humour that could always make everyone laugh.

Emily is lovingly remembered by her sons, Hudson and Nash Lappage; husband, Austin Lappage; parents, Blaine & Laura Gatez; sister, Madison Johnson (Taran); grandparents, Gerald & Linda Gatez and Honora Thubron. She was an exceptional daughter in law to Bob & Valerie Lappage, and sister in law to Danielle (Harry), Ashley (Andrew), and Taylor. She was a beloved niece to Lana & Peter Cissell, Cheryl & Stephen Sundquist, and Louise & Doug Thubron. She was a cousin to Carter (Larissa), Mason, Jared, Aiden, Brendan, and Cian. Emily was predeceased by her grandfather, Bill Thubron and cherished cousin, Justin Cissell.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Emily’s medical team at the Arthur Child Cancer Centre; Dr. Jose Monzon, Dr. Jordan Stosky, and their team whose monumental efforts blessed Emily with more time and strength. We are forever grateful for their impact, compassion, and kindness.

A celebration of Emily’s beautiful life will be held at the Crossfield Community Hall (900 Mountain Ave, Crossfield, AB) on Friday, July 17th at 2:00pm. As per her wishes, we ask that people dress colourful - just like Emily’s spirit.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations in Emily’s name are made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation at www.albertacancer.ca

A livestream of the event will be available. Family, friends, and all who were touched by Emily's life are invited to come together to honour her and share in the joy she brought to this world.

Dear Austin, Hudson, Nash, and the Gatez & Lappage families,

It was such a privilege to have crossed paths with Emily during her school years. Emily was an absolute pleasure to teach and coach who was always a dedicated, hard-working student whose natural leadership shone through in everything she did. Her coachability, drive, and work ethic were unmatched, yet she always brought a sense of light and joy to whatever she immersed herself in.
Reading about the incredible woman, wife, and mother she became comes as no surprise. That same strength, positivity, and tenacity she showed as a young student and athlete clearly defined the brave, radiant warrior she was throughout her life.
Please accept my deepest condolences and sending everyone all the love, strength, and grace to get through this incredibly difficult time. Emily’s impact, warmth, and memory will never be forgotten.

With sincere sympathy,

Ms. Stapor

I was blessed to grow up with Emily.
We were part of the January birthday crew in our class. - I remember going to her power puff girls birthday party.

Growing up in Crossfield, everyone knows everyone. And Emily is someone who continued to chat with me and encourage me in our high-school hallways. She went out of her way to chat with me.

I wish I had sought her out as much as she did me, but I am so thankful for the memories I have with her. ❤️

I am struggling to accept that she is gone.
And I am so incredibly sad that we have to live life without her encouraging smile.
Sending love and prayers to her family ❤️
