Erwin Pries

Erwin Pries of Calgary, AB peacefully passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the age of 93.

 Erwin was born on July 27, 1930 in Alexander, MB to David and Suzanna Pries.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Mary; son, Harvey (Diane); daughter, Esther (John) and grandson, Matthew; son, Dale (Doris); as well as siblings, David Pries and Margaret Enns. He was predeceased by his sons, Kenny and Alvin; as well his parents; and siblings, John, Olga, Victor, Frieda and twin sister, Anne.

 Erwin overcame early challenges of a polio diagnosis at age 5, but after surgery, was able to recover and walk again. He left the farm to purse higher education, and later worked in various industries. Erwin married his sweetheart, Mary Derksen in 1956. In 1964, his love for the mountains led him and Mary to move their young family from Winnipeg to Calgary. Many precious family outings were shared exploring and camping in the Rocky Mountains.

 Erwin had a passion for studying the Word of God. He was actively involved with the Gideon’s, as well as many different prayer groups and Bible Studies. He also had a passion for watching sports that he shared with his son Alvin. After retirement, his hobbies included reading, walking, and travelling.

 A Celebration of Ewrin's Life will be held at Highland Mennonite Brethren Church, 4018 Centre B Street N.W., Calgary, AB on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 2:30 p.m.
