Frances Govier

Frances Anne Govier passed away the morning of Sunday, October 11th, 2026 at the age of 77. She will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Ryan (Lynn), Robyn (Matt) and Eric; her four grandchildren, Carmen, Everly, Liv and Nate; and her sister, Sylvia. Fran was predeceased by her parents, William and Bet Govier.

In the last month of her life, Fran was diagnosed with an aggressive form of late-stage cancer. Always a fighter, Fran faced the effects of her illness with fortitude and grace, asserting her independence until the very end.

Even in her final days, Fran's sense of humour kept the people around her smiling. In the unlikeliest of moments she would quote John Candy or Indiana Jones. She was never afraid of being silly and having fun.

Fran loved dogs, particularly dachshunds and labradors. She had a few canine companions over the years and she always treated them like they were human.

Fran was a voracious reader, and she also dabbled in creative writing. Every September Fran talked about how much she enjoyed school and how she absolutely loved learning. She was fond of traveling and exploring different kinds of food. She even took a retirement trip to Italy to go to cooking school.

Fran was a single parent for much of her life and always provided for her family. She worked hard to build a career for herself in Healthcare beginning as an X-Ray Technologist in Edmonton and later becoming the Administrative Director of Diagnostic Imaging for Southern Alberta.

Fran was the best Mom and Grandma anyone could have asked for.
