Francis Daniel "Dan" Jacob

February 13th, 1937 - September 14th, 2024
Born in Mutrie, Saskatchewan
Passed in Rocky View County, Alberta
Francis Daniel "Dan" Jacob

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Daniel "Dan" Jacob on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

Dan is lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Michaeline; his children, Sandy (Greg), Chris (Nicky), Tim (Cindy), Jeff and Laurie (Cameron); his grandchildren, Taggart (Kailey), Sasha, Tanner (Danika), Alix, Sidney, Evan and Emma and great-grandchildren, Amara and Kayson.

Dan was born in the Mutrie area of Saskatchewan on February 13, 1937. He was the youngest of 7 children. Dan farmed and ranched in SE Sask until 1980 when he re-located with his family to the Airdrie area. He has been an active member of the community and St. Paul's Parish since. Many will remember him for singing in the choir.

Dan worked in farming and ranching most of his life and always had a passion for riding and training horses.

He was an authentic, kind, hard working and generous man. He loved people and was always happy to engage in conversation, especially if it was about a horse. He was the eternal optimist and rarely had a bad day. He had a great sense of humour, always had a joke to tell or a story to share and will be remembered for his amazing laugh!

Dan was a friend to many. His motto was "A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet".

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1305 Main Steet S, Airdrie on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Saskatchewan.

For those who can't attend, a live stream will be available for viewing at https://youtube.com/live/TR44FZqfSqs?feature=share

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Paul's Building Fund, 1305 Main Street S, Airdrie, AB T4B 1C5.

I just found out. I am so sorry for Dan's family's loss. Dan was truly a wonderful man and the most talented horse whisperer. He was always happy, positive and easy to talk with. If it hadn't been for Dan, we wouldn't have found our wonderful horse Silver. Dan will sorely be missed. He was training horses with kindness and compassion, long before it was a 'thing'; so ahead of his time. Dan - the man, the legend - we will miss him. Please accept our condolences.

Dear Michaeline and family,

I woke up early this morning and thought about giving Dan my yearly ‘how are you doing’ phone call. Something told me he was no longer with us so I looked up his name and seen he had passed. Dan was such an amazing horse trainer helping me greatly with my three horses Pal, Triton and Kia.
I will miss our chats and his wisdom.
Please accept my condolences and loving thoughts, Dan will be missed forever but never forgotten. XO Anne

Thank you for the kindness, guidance, stories and your family! I truly am blessed to have known him. I was not born to the Jacob clan but chosen and forever grateful.

Danny was a first cousin to my mom, but felt more like an uncle to me. I learned a long time ago that you never went to see him for just a quick visit, I'll always remember those conversations.

My condolences to Michaeline and her family. For several years I was a member of the 5 pm choir and I have great respect for Dan for aways being ready to be the cantor. Several times Dan, one other senior and I were the only choir members who could sing for a funeral, and Dan's love of singing was very obvious. God bless you all.

I am so sorry to learn of the sudden passing of Dan. My deepest condolences to his family whom he was so proud of and spoke of all the time. Dan was my first true mentor when it came to horses. He helped both me and my horses . He always took the time needed for both them and me to learn from him. Time to “soak” he would say. So much skill, knowledge, kindness and patience. And a great conversation. Thank you Dan - for all of that.

I am sorry to hear of Dan's passing and I am thinking and praying for the Jacob family. Dan was a wonderful and kind man and always so welcoming. He always had a story or silly joke to tell and a smile on his face. He took me under his wing when I brought a horse in for training and always welcomed me into the barn and in for a coffee. He was generous and kind with everyone and had a way like no other with the horses. Knowing Dan and his family has been a blessing. I am so deeply sorry for your loss.

My sister Nicky is married to Dan’s son Chris so he has been a part of our extended family since about 1988. He was a truly amazing, one of a kind person and I will miss his humour and his wonderfully infectious laughter! My husband Mitch and I are truly sorry for the whole family’s loss. Much love and hugs to you all!💜💜
