Frank Fraser

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frank Fraser on Monday, October 26, 2026, at the age of 90 years.

Born on February 2, 1936, in Dundee, Scotland, Frank’s life was a remarkable journey of strength, determination, love, and laughter.

Frank spent his childhood growing up in an orphanage in Scotland, where he remained until the age of 16. Despite growing up without the love and comfort of a traditional family, Frank became an exceptionally gentle, kind, and loving man. His early years may have been difficult, but they never defined the man he would become.

At just 11 years old, Frank met a young girl named Mary, affectionately known as “Mamie.” From the very beginning, Frank knew she was his one and only true love. When Mamie moved to Canada in 1956, Frank happily followed the girl who had captured his heart.

Frank began his new life in Montreal, Quebec, where he and Mamie started their family and welcomed their three children, Ian, Joyce, and Caroline.

The family eventually settled in Calgary, Alberta, where Frank continued building a life through hard work, dedication, and his love for his family.

In 1990, Frank and Mamie moved to Beiseker, Alberta, where Frank and his son Ian continued working side by side, sharing their skills, their work, and a special father-and-son connection.

Frank was a man of remarkable talents and accomplishments. During his younger years in Scotland, he played football with the Rangers. His passion for the game remained with him throughout his life.

He also proudly served with the Canadian Black Watch in Montreal and established himself as a successful finishing carpenter. His craftsmanship, precision, and dedication were reflected in everything he created.

Among Frank’s many talents was his beautiful tenor voice, a gift that brought joy to those fortunate enough to hear him sing.

But perhaps Frank’s greatest gift was his glorious sense of humour.

He had a mischievous wit and a wonderful ability to bring laughter into everyday life. He especially enjoyed teasing his beloved Mamie, whose familiar response of “Oh, Frank!” followed by a quiet giggle, spoke volumes about the affection they shared.

Their love story began in childhood and continued through a lifetime of shared experiences, laughter, and devotion.

Of all Frank’s accomplishments, however, nothing brought him greater happiness than his grandchildren. They were his greatest joy, and he treasured the time he spent with them.

Music had always held a special place in Frank’s heart. Blessed with a beautiful tenor voice and a deep love for his Scottish roots, some of his favourite songs included “The Muckin’ O’ Geordie’s Byre,” “A Scottish Soldier,” and the legendary “Donald Where’s Your Troosers” by Andy Stewart.

The latter was a particular favourite among his grandchildren, who will forever remember their grandfather singing it to them. It was one of those wonderful little traditions that captured Frank’s playful spirit, his Scottish pride, and the joy he found in making his grandchildren smile.

Frank spent his retirement years in Drumheller, Alberta. Following his diagnosis of dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease, he eventually made his home at Drumheller Hospital Continuing Care, where he spent his final years.

Throughout those years, Frank was surrounded by the love and devotion of his family. His daughter Caroline provided unwavering love, support, and dedication throughout his journey. Caroline and her boys visited often, bringing him his favourite treats, spending precious time together, and filling his room with the familiar sounds of his beloved Scottish music.

When his daughter Joyce and her husband Rob returned from New York in 2022, they too became frequent visitors. Their time together was filled with quiet moments of tenderness, often spent listening to Scottish music while Joyce gently stroked her dad’s hair.

Though Alzheimer’s gradually changed the way Frank experienced the world, the love surrounding him never wavered. The familiar melodies of his homeland, the gentle touch of his daughters, and the presence of his cherished grandchildren brought comfort and connection during his final years.

In the days leading up to Frank’s passing, we were blessed to have each shared our own special moments with him. Those precious visits, quiet conversations, and moments of simply being together are memories we will forever hold close to our hearts. We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to surround Frank with love in his final days.

Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary “Mamie” Fraser (2014), his son Ian Fraser (2013), and his son-in-law Eric Olson (2008).

He leaves behind his daughters, Joyce Fraser (Rob) and Caroline Olson, and his daughter-in-law Brenda Fraser.

He was a proud and loving grandfather to Matthew (Kandyce), Branden (Ashley), Brittany (Kyle), Cory, Dallas, and Andrew.

His legacy continues through his seven great-grandchildren: Landon, Grayson, Samuel, Oliver, Weston, Sydney, and Lewis.

Frank’s life was not defined by the challenges of his childhood or the difficulties of his final years, but by the love he gave, the family he cherished, and the laughter he brought into the lives of others.

Frank may have spent his childhood without the warmth of a loving family, but in the final chapter of his life, he was surrounded by the very love he had given so freely to others.

And perhaps the most beautiful thought of all is imagining Frank reunited with his beloved Mamie, making one of his cheeky remarks and hearing her familiar response, accompanied by that quiet little giggle…

“Oh, Frank!”

And somewhere, we can almost hear his beautiful Scottish tenor singing “Donald Where’s Your Troosers” once again.

Rest peacefully, Frank. Your love, laughter, and music will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.
