In Memory
Frederick (Fred) James Bird

Grief, I've learned is really just love. It's all about the love you want to give, but cannot
All
of that unspent love gathers in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your
throat, and the hollow part of your chest.
Grief is just love with no place to go. - J.Anderson

My uncle Fred and my first ever vehicle. Going to College at the time. Went to the Valley to look at a car for sale $1300. Car was an old boat of a car 2 toned green, had these little signal lights on the top of the bonnet Gosh they were cool. Had to have the car. Went to Bank. Bank said No ,you're too high a risk! I said, whatever, can I have the money. Bank said, well, if you can find a co signer we will let you have the money. Hmmm, can t bother Uncle Fred on that one, the feller already lets me stay at his place from time to time and even feeds me. (I remember on Sundays he'd cook up this big old dinner Salt Beef, Taddies, and the veggies. We'd sit down and he'd look at me and say, Eat your carrots now my boy, I d think, ya right Unc as soon as you get up to do the dishes I'll sneak them in the garbage LOL). Oh, the car-right. Geeze , I know, I'll call nice girl, Aunt Donna.
Aunt Donna said, Sure. down she comes to the bank. Gets money, Buys car. Drives up to Uncle Freds. Uncle said, yes , Nice car. LOL. Week or so later, I was driving off the base cruising along and all of a sudden I heard this loud noise like I hit something, motor was still running I'd depress the gas and all the car would do was rev up, Hmm. While rolling to a stop I looked in the rear view mirror and did a double take. That's my drive shaft back in the middle of the road! Car stops. I get out and run back, snatch up the drive shaft and shoved it in the back seat. Well what am i gonna do now-no money in my pocket for about another week. Geeze. Can't call Uncle Dick he's working on the Canadian side somewhere. Well, get to good ole Uncle Fred. I known where he s working. Hitch a ride. Bangs on his work door Uncle Fred opens door ! What's wrong my son; told him what happened. Oh he said OK just give me a minute to make sure all my readings are good. Out comes Uncle Fred with a piece of rope. Gets in his little silver VW rabbit and we leave. I was all worried and said to him, You sure this little rig will tow that big ole car ? Uncle Fred gives me that Big ole Fred Bird grin and said (while depressing the gas) Feel that power! I look at him and said, no Uncle Fred, I do not. Still worried, I look at him and said, What about the cops! and there it was again, that big ole grin. No worries he said, they're my friends. That's my Uncle, drop anything and help. Uncle Fred did indeed tow my car back to his place , guided me on the repair and I need not tell you who paid for the universal joint.
You are a role model.
Take care on your journey to Heaven Uncle Fred. As our friend and my great Uncle Bill Reeves would Bluntly say to you, - NO need to knock Pal.
The Almighty would want (deservingly, without question), you seated next to Him. Bye for now. Ohh, yes, Uncle Fred I should have eaten the carrots.
Sadly missed , Mike and the Fequet s
