Fred Gerber

It is with heavy hearts and sorrow we announce the passing of Fred Gerber. Words cannot describe the hole that is left in our hearts with his absence. He passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Victoria; as well as his sister, June.

Fred had many titles, he was a husband to Sharon, married for 60 years; father to 4 children, Warren (Tracy), Chad, Lisa (Richard) and Tanya (Perry); a grandfather to 7, Chase, Shayla (Lukas), Bryce, Shantel, Paige, Brittney and Taylor; a friend to many, but his favourite title was being a great-grandather to 3, Natalie, Myla and Brennix, who brought immeasurable happiness to his life.

Fred drove bus for 35 years between Condor and David Thompson and found joy in it. He had a nickname for just about every kid that rode the bus. After bus driving, Fred continued with farming on the homestead where he grew up. Anyone who knew Fred, knew his smile was contagious and brightened up any room. He was kind, compassionate, always supportive and never judgmental. He was a lover of tiger ice cream, gingersnaps, fresh garden vegetables, John Deere tractors and Lawrence Welk.

Fred’s favourite place to be was anywhere in the Alberta Mountains or at an auction with his best friend, Al Gaetz. Every summer his daughter, Tanya, along with his granddaughter Shayla and his great-grandkids would go on a few adventures out west together. It always seemed as if Fred knew every back road ever made out there.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the nurses for the excellent care Fred received at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Unit 22 & 31.

As per Fred’s request, no Service will be held.
