Garry Wayne Patterson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Garry Wayne Patterson - husband, father and grandfather, on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Didsbury Hospital, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. 

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on February 16, 1948, Garry was the youngest son of Bill and Violet Patterson, growing up there alongside his brother John.

Garry met Beverley, the love of his life, in the summer of 1965 at church summer camp, and they were married on June 13, 1970. In July 1977, they moved to Fort McMurray, where Garry worked at the AMP dealership where, with hard work and by putting in long hours, he fairly quickly rose to managerial ranks and was trusted with considerable responsibilities.

Together, they raised three remarkable children: Cathy (Robyn) Kyllo, Michael, and Sean. Garry was also a proud grandfather to: Hailey, Carter, Alyssa, and Jacob.

After retiring in June 2005, and since they had always enjoyed travelling, Garry and Bev began spending many happy and warm winters in Arizona. A few years ago they even undertook a trip to Jolly Old and other European countries.

Always busy with his own projects or with helping family or neighbours with theirs, Garry could usually be found working in his garage, in his basement gunroom or in their backyard. 

In 2014, Garry and Bev moved to Didsbury to be closer to their family, and worked hard to create many cherished memories, especially with their family but also with friends and neighbours - thus becoming a valued friend and neighbour. Always dependable and willing to help anyone in need, his presence will be deeply missed by all. On a final but significant note,  he rarely, if at all, sought recognition for the help he freely rendered.

Without wishing to over or understate anything at all, let’s just say that Garry will be remembered for his strong love for his family, his hard work, his drive and determination along with his ever-present sense of humour and quick wit.

 A memorial service will be held to honour Garry's life and legacy at the Didsbury Zion Church on Friday, June 14, 2024, at 2:00 pm.
