Gary Brian Ritchie passed away peacefully in Strathmore on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the age of 87 years. Born on June 17, 1938, in Stettler, Alberta, Gary grew up in endiang as the youngest of 12 children born to Jack and Olga. He was predeceased by his parents and all 11 of his beloved brothers and sisters. Gary’s legacy of love lives on through his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Leigh; his daughter, Terri (Mike) Hunka; and his sons, Todd (Patti) Ritchie and Jim Ritchie. He also leaves behind his two cherished grandsons, Scott (Kiara) Hunka and Brian (Katelyn) Hunka, as well as his sister-in-law, Rae Armour of Sechelt, BC, and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Beyond his devotion to his family, Gary will be remembered as an exceptionally skilled and avid horseman. His passion for horses was a defining part of his life, from participating in horse shows to riding his trusted horse, Bourbon Dale, in Steele’s Scouts events. As a proud founding member of the Steele’s Scouts in 1977, Gary dedicated many years to preserving local heritage and sharing his love for the equestrian way of life. A Celebration of Gary's Life will be held at a later date.

So many fond memories of your Dad at the ranch for the branding parties. A great teller of stories, loved his horses and was always full of good fun conversations in our get togethers. I loved your Dad’s laugh and that look when telling a good story🙏💕…missed dearly.

Gonna miss the big guy. We did alot of trail rides together, taught me to ride a how to ride a bicycle. Ive learned so much from you Dad im going to miss you terribly! 💔😢
