In Memory
Gary Wournell

It is with
sad and broken hearts that we announce the passing of a dear husband, father,
brother, uncle and friend at the age of 76. Although he had dementia, he
succumbed on Tuesday, April 9th to congestive heart failure, with his loving
family by his side.
He came into this world on June 1, 1947, from two loving parents, Robert (Bob) and Norma (MacInnes) Wournell. Gary grew up in a small community of Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova Scotia. He then attended Dartmouth High School and after graduation continued his education at Vocational to obtain a clerical diploma which enabled him to work in various jobs doing Accounting, Payroll and Human Resources.
While living in Musquodoboit Harbour and starting his life, he met the love of his life in 1968, Sandy, and married her in 1969. Balancing his career, love of sports and music they raised three loving children, Sean, Mark and Chris.
In 1981 he moved his family to Alberta, and started working for Transcontinental Printing in 1991, continuing his work in Payroll and Human Resources. He worked there for 23 years until his retirement in 2014.
It was during 2020 that Gary was diagnosed with dementia. Sandy and their sons supported him until they had to move him into the Bethany Care Facility, Calgary on May 19th, 2023.
Gary will be deeply missed and is remembered by his loving wife Sandy, of 55 years of marriage; sons, Sean, Mark and Chris all of Alberta; brothers, Doug (Debbie) of Calgary, and Kevin (Lori) of Vernon BC; nephews, Jason, Kurt and Martin; niece, Marley; and his many relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Dale, sister-in-law Linda and nephew Jeffrey.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the Bethany Care Facility’s care providers for taking excellent care of him during his stay. Cremation has taken place and funeral arrangements will be made at a later date.

I was very saddened to read of Gary's untimely passing. Although I did not know him very well , we were cousins. Gary's grandfather Archie Wournell, was a brother to my grandfather James Wournell. When Gary attended Dartmouth High School, we were in the same classroom in the 11th grade. Please accept my sincere condolences to you and all your family at this most trying time. May God bless.
Sincerely, Fred Grainger
