Glenn Martin Pollock, 71, of Carstairs,
Alberta went to his heavenly home
with God, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from a swift attack of cancer in his bones.
Glenn was kind, helpful, loyal, inventive and humorous. He will be
greatly missed by his family and friends. Never one to pass up an opportunity
to tell a joke or a funny story, he liked to make people laugh. He could make all of grandchildren laugh with
just a raised eyebrow or wiggle of the fingers to foretell a tickle might be
coming. He was unhesitatingly willing to
help anyone who asked for help, from building a house, to fixing a
dishwasher. He served many hours in many churches in sound booths and
maintenance departments.
Raised on a farm near Fillmore,
Saskatchewan, Glenn was the
typical boy who played outside all day long, got into mischief with his younger
siblings and nearby cousin. They had a
dog named Queenie and a horse named Princess, plus assorted feral cats,
chickens and ducks. He thoroughly
enjoyed farm life but the day came when his dad said he was now old enough to
work. Eventually he drove an open
tractor in the fields for endless hours which in due course led to his cancer.
Glenn possessed outstanding mechanical aptitude and he enrolled at
Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary in 1970 for a three year program in
Electronics. Every job he took was in a
highly technical industry. First job was
with Lenkurt Electric installing microwave systems throughout Western
Canada. That led to a stint with AGT, now known as Telus, in the
engineering department. A small start-up
company in Bassano, Alberta, known as Global Thermoelectric,
gave him a job helping to build thermoelectric power generators and install
them all over the world. In the 1990’s
Glenn was invited to move to Atlanta,
Georgia to sell
cellular systems for Novatel. He was
again travelling all over the world to every continent except Australia. He returned to Alberta
and began another job at Global Thermoelectric in Calgary.
Other jobs included consulting with Shell Corporation. Through all these career moves he always
focused on the project at hand. His projects
domestically included building a TV from a kit, erecting and finishing a Nelson
package house, fixing the family cars, building computers from components and
other smaller assignments.
Glenn met Debbie at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in 1972 and
they married the following year in Regina
just after beginning his first job with Lenkurt. They had 2 sons, Jeremy, born 1978 and Brian,
born 1980. They adopted a sweet little
girl in 1986 when she was just barely 2. Glenn and Debbie celebrated 50 years
of marriage with a two and a half month stay in Mexico just this past winter.
He was predeceased by his brother, Lorne; mother, Pearl; and father, Roy;
as well as all of his aunts and uncles on both sides of his family.
Glenn is lovingly remembered by his wife, Debbie; children, Jeremy
Pollock (Laurena), Brian Pollock (Vered), Laurie Groves (Mark); sister, Gail
Nieckar (Thomas); brother, Guy Pollock.
There are eight grandchildren. Laurie’s children are Julie Young, Jamie
Conley, Isabella Groves, and Jaxson
Groves. Jeremy’s children are Inara and Pierce. Brian’s children are Mia and Emma. There are many other surviving relatives who
will mourn his passing, but rejoice at his new life in heaven.
