Gregory (Greg) James Olson

Gregory (Greg) James Olson, 63, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 24, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He leaves behind his loving partner, Nadine Lafferty, and her two daughters, Dakota and Summer. He is also lovingly remembered by his mother, Lorna Olson; his father, Ted Olson; his son, Matthew Olson; and his sister, Donna Beaton, along with her family: Sarah and Jordan Fode and their children Brayden, Ryland, and Adelynn; Jessica and Dylan Van Rooyen and their children Eva and Lane; and Adam and Jessica Beaton and their children Hunter and Tenley.

Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Greg moved to Calgary and later to Tsawwassen in 1971, where he graduated from South Delta Senior Secondary. As one of the founding members of the SDSS football team, Greg was known for his strength and power in his position as center. He continued his passion for sports by playing for the Richmond Raiders Football Club and excelling in lacrosse and hockey at elite levels.

From an early age, Greg had a deep passion for driving, often seen behind the wheel of his red Pontiac Parisienne or his orange truck. He went on to cherish his Harley Davidson and a fulfilling professional driving career. First with Glencoe Trucking for ten years and then with Bison Trucking starting in 2007. Over his career, Greg amassed over 1.75 million safety miles, many of which were through mountainous terrain—a remarkable achievement.

Greg will be remembered for his unique sayings, affectionately known as “Greg-isms,” and his straightforward, no-nonsense approach to life.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at Sundre Hospital for their compassionate care and support during Greg’s final months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sundre Hospital Future Fund at [https://www.sundrehospitalfutures.com/donate.html].

To our dearly loved Greg: you will be deeply missed, but your love and legacy will remain in our hearts forever.

Greg was a valued member of our team for many years. As our dedicated driver, he touched the lives of everyone he worked with through his unwavering commitment and warm spirit. We always knew when Greg entered the office, not just because of his presence but because of the cheer and laughter he brought with him. His positivity was contagious and his absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt. Greg is missed by all of us. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

What a beautiful tribute. I think the last time I saw Greg was in about 1980. I remember him very well. My sincere condolences to all the family and dear friends. Cancer SUCKS!

It was so wonderful to see Greg again at our annual high school grad mini-reunion a few years ago. Everyone was pleased that Greg came all the way from Alberta to join us. We are all sorry for your family's loss. Greg was taken far too soon! Cancer sucks!
