Guy "Rick" Watt

Guy Richard Watt passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the age of 66 years. He is remembered by his sister, Judy Sawin; his brother, Allan (Jacquie) Watt; Edgar's second wife, June Watt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, four aunts, one uncle and many cousins. “Rick” was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Betty Watt; and brother-in-law, Tim Sawin.

Rick was born in Calgary on April 4, 1957. He grew up in the hamlet of Kathyrn and attended school there.

After high school, Rick moved to Calgary and began his life long career as a truck driver. He started driving a fuel truck in Calgary and then in the following years, began long distance hauling both nationally and internationally.  Rick worked for Tri-Line Carriers and then finished his truck driving career with Bison Transport.

Rick was an avid sports fan. He was better known as “Duke” to most of his friends and attended many Calgary Flames, Calgary Hitmen, and Calgary Stampeders games. He travelled to many “Grey Cup” games with that special group of friends as well as to the some NFL games in the USA where they made many great memories. Rick also enjoyed golfing with his friends and had a most distinctive and memorable laugh.  When you heard “the laugh”, you knew he was in the room.

As per Rick’s wishes, no service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire, memorial donations in Rick’s memory can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association (https://www.jdrf.org/donate/) or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

I was lucky enough to attend many, many sporting events with Duke. Our trips took us to places like Seattle, Green Bay, Dallas, Miami, Denver for NFL and NHL games. We attended a Grey Cup in every CFL city and then started over again. Many memories were created as we cheered on the Stampeders and Flames. Thise trips have slowed down as we got older but the memories are still there and often bring a smile to my face. My sincerest condolences to Duke's family at this trying time.

RIP DUKE!
