Guy Shulhan

The world became a little less bright with the passing of Guy Shulhan on September 6, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta. Born on August 22, 1948, in St. Paul, Alberta, Guy lived a life filled with curiosity, humour, hard work, and a passion for wildlife and the outdoors.

Guy loved birding, hiking, and capturing the beauty of the world through his photography. His talent behind the camera earned him several awards, and his photos will continue to inspire those who see them. Guy was also an avid scuba diver in earlier years, exploring the Red Sea with wonder and an untiring sense of adventure. He was a lover of art, particularly Inuit sculpture, and enjoyed sharing his artistic knowledge with those who wanted to learn.

A unique mind, he had a talent for problem-solving and was constantly learning new things. His enthusiasm was infectious, and he never failed to bring laughter to those around him with his quirky sense of humour.

Guy is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 47 years, Margie, his sister Suzie, sister Donna, brother-in-law Hal, son Michael, daughter Stephanie, son-in-law Min, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is deeply missed, and he will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Guy was diagnosed with late-stage cancer in May 2025, and he died peacefully in hospice after radiation treatment.

No formal service will be held, per Guy's wishes. For those who wish to celebrate his memory, the family kindly recommends that charitable donations to honour Guy be made to:

I met Guy while working at Cimarron Engineering. He shared his passion of photography with me and got me re-inspired to get back into photography. I left the world of film photography and got heavily into digital. We had great fun at Race City Speedway when Guy would get us Press passes to motorbike races. We would bring out our massive telephoto lenses, wander anywhere and get great shots! Guy was a great companion and so much fun! Guy will be sorely missed!

I also met Guy while working at Cimarron Engineering. I always enjoyed our chats whether it was about work (he was a great engineer), or how the world works, or our hobbies. I was always amazed by his photography skills. He showed interest in other people which demonstrated his generous spirit. I loved his tips on investment as he was a keen study of finance and markets. Most of all he was always kind and helpful. He spoke often of his sister in ON and family. Guy was one of my favorite people and he will be missed a great deal by everyone that knew him. Rest in peace.

I recently learned of Guy's passing and just wanted to share some words. I met Guy while working at Cimarron Engineering (now Stantec). As a young Engineer he was always willing to help and mentor me. When I became a mother he was always very welcoming to my daughter when I'd bring to her to work with me. He loved to share stories with her (well anyone really) and even shared his love of animals with us by taking us for a tour of the AIWC. And as she learned a love of photography he shared tips on that with her also. He touched the lives of many with his generous spirit and will be missed by all who knew him.
