Harry Sorensen

Harry Milton Sorensen was born August 23, 1929, in Redvers Saskatchewan. On Monday, May 18, 2026, at age 96, Harry passed away peacefully, surrounded by friends, at Brentwood Care Centre, Calgary, Alberta. Harry is predeceased by his father, Michael Sorensen; his mother, Dagmar Sorensen (nee Jorgensen); and his brother, Roy Sorensen. Harry is lovingly remembered by his brother’s family, his cousins, Ivan and Lloyd Jorgensen; their families, and his friends. Harry was born just as the Great Depression was setting in. His family struggled to make ends meet, so, in 1938 they moved back to the Sorensen farm in Denmark. But with WW2 looming, Michael and Dagmar moved their family back to Canada within the year and bought a dairy farm just west of Toronto. Harry worked for his parents until they sold the farm in 1969. Harry then moved to Calgary Alberta and found a job in construction. He worked for Dominion Construction, Priddy Brothers Construction, then Brian Cooke Construction until his retirement in 1994. Harry was always involved in the community associations where he lived. In 2002 the City of Calgary gave him a commendation of service for his work with the Winston Heights Community Association. When he sold his house in Winston Heights in 1993, he moved into Silverwood on the Park in Bowness and became the president of the condo association there. In retirement, Harry took an interest in playing cards with friends, in photography, and in everything computer related. In his late 90’s he taught himself to program computers using Java Script. Harry lived independently until the age of 96 and was well known in Bowness, where he loved to cruise around town on his scooter when weather permitted. Harry will be fondly remembered for the colourful stories about his life, his interest in community affairs, and his ability to laugh at himself.

Harry’s Celebration of Life will be held at Bowness Senior’s Center, 6422 35th Ave NW Calgary, AB on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 1:30 PM.
