Hazel Latendre

February 17th, 1937 - November 4th, 2023
Born in Cold Lake, AB
Passed in Calgary, AB
Hazel Latendre

Hazel has touched the hearts of many, and will be lovingly remembered by her five children, Richard (Tracy), Mary (Marko), Barb (Bob), Tom (Irene), and Carmen (Claude);

grandchildren, Marine (Maxime), Jodie, Elliot, Shaelyn and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Lexie, Peter, James, and Riley; and siblings, Rose and George (Marybelle).

Her parents, Jim and Mary Piche, raised a large family of eleven children. Although challenging at times, they lived the traditional ways of the Metis people, hunting and fishing off the land. Hazel and her family of origin, moved to Cold Lake, her birthplace, to further her education at Saint Dominic’s School and onward in the public school system.

At age 24, she married Peter Latendre. Initially, Hazel worked as a housewife, and because Peter  worked with the Canadian Armed Forces, they moved often during ten years of  marriage. She raised the children and always was a dedicated Mother.

She began her career working with the public in the hospitality industry. As the daytime manager at the Lakeland Inn, she developed the reputation as having a strong personality. Later on in her work life, she furthered her education to care for seniors at Bethany Care Society. This demonstrated the compassionate and caring part of her personality, until her retirement.

Hazel loved to be active and fit throughout her life. Looking good and feeling healthy, inside and out, was a goal. Some of her other interests were gardening, reading, curling and sharing  home-cooked meals with others.

She passed away peacefully at Wentworth Manor in Calgary, with her daughter by her side.

Special thanks to the medical staff, care workers, and her dedicated friend, Stephanie.

As per her wishes, there will be no Celebration of Life service.

Thanks to a wonderful sister-in-law! Whenever I visited Calgary, Hazel would take me to church every Sunday and we always had an adventure that involved eating and shopping. We also had some lovely trips to places like Lethbridge and Banff. My heart-felt condolences to my nieces and nephews and their families.

I'll always remember Hazel, my dear Mother in law, saying : ''Claude ! My points my points'' when I used to drive her car! How courageous and strong she was when we climbed up Sulphur Mountain close to Banff. 'I will never forget when we all laughed together in the backyard at Pavillons sous bois in France.
May you rest in peace now. Watch over us from up there...

Hazel will be remembered by me as a very special lady. When visiting Barb here in Victoria, we always had a visit. Sometimes even a nice walk. A very pleasant lady to remember.
R.I.P. Hazel.

Hazel was a special lady and will be missed by many, especially by my partner, her daughter, Barb. I'm still not sure why, but Hazel wanted me to have her walking stick which we keep by the front door. Thank you Tom, for carrying out her wishes and getting it to us. My deepest sympathies to you and all the family as you mourn the loss of your Mother. May she rest in peace.
