Heather Van Horne

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Heather Van Horne (Nee Swainston) on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the age of 79.

Heather was born in Drumheller, Alberta, and grew up in Delia before making her home in Calgary for many years. Later in life, she returned to Delia, where she enjoyed being close to her roots.

Heather was known for her quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and honest, straightforward nature. If you asked Heather a question, you could always count on her to tell it like it was. She was truly one of a kind and brought laughter and authenticity to everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Throughout her life, Heather worked hard and took great pride in everything she did. She was employed at Lucerne Meats, the Baker Centre, Sears, and several other workplaces over the years. Her dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic earned the respect of those who worked alongside her.

In her spare time, Heather found joy in knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitching, creating beautiful handmade treasures that her family will cherish forever. Above all else, Heather loved her family. They were the center of her world and her greatest source of happiness.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kimberly Bonnetta, and her husband, Kevin Bonnetta; her granddaughters, Rebecca-Joye Rowley and her husband, Nicholas Rowley, and Krystal DeVries and her husband, Nataniel DeVries; and her beloved great-granddaughters, Myla-Anne, Elli, and Maizy DeVries, and Heather Rowley, who brought endless pride, love, and joy to her life.

Heather was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Van Horne; her beloved parents, Beverly and Carl Swainston; and her brother, Donald Swainston.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Drumheller Hospital, especially Dr. Sandra and Claire from the palliative care team, for the exceptional care, kindness, and comfort they provided to Heather and her family during her final days.

In keeping with Heather's wishes, there will be no funeral service or celebration of life. Those wishing to honour her memory are invited to make a donation in her name to the Hanna SPCA.

Heather's love, laughter, strength, and unwavering honesty will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Though she is no longer with us, the warmth she shared, the laughter she inspired, and the love she gave will remain with her family forever.
