Helmut Honecker

With deep sadness the family of Helmut Theodore Honecker of Mirror, Alberta announce his passing at the Lacombe Hospital on Friday, May 19, 2023 at the age of 96 years. He was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan on November 29, 1926 and grew up on the family homestead near Cactus Lake. As a young bachelor he moved to Mirror, Alberta to farm and stayed on that farm until just hours before his passing. In addition to his farming, he did construction for many years building houses, churches, and farm buildings or remodeling existing structures. Aside from business he spent many hours in his carpenter shop coming up with various items to give away.

Helmut was predeceased by his wife, Ruth (2022); son, Homer (2000); parents, William and Martha; 10 siblings, numerous in-laws, and most of his peers. He is remembered with love and respect by his one remaining sister, Frieda Honecker; his daughter, Mavis; sons, Marvin and Deryl; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great great grandchildren.

Helmut was a quiet, hardworking, patient man with strong faith in God who shone as a husband for almost 70 years, and as a dad, uncle, friend and neighbor very involved in his church in younger days, and a support to many even in his later years. 

A private family celebration will be held at his farm at a later date.
