Herbert Buchanan, born on January 31, 1933 in Crystal City, Manitoba, passed away on October 18, 2024 in Airdrie, Alberta. Herb, as he was known to family and friends, had a fulfilling life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Herb's life journey began on a farm just outside of Crystal City, Manitoba.  He left home to work on the grain elevators.  When he joined the RCMP, he met his soon to become wife, Doris, during training in Regina. Together, they raised two daughters, Brenda and Marna. After retiring from the RCMP, Herb continued to work for Canada Safeway and the government of Alberta. He had a passion for spending time with family and friends, often enjoying summers at Christina Lake.

In October 2009, Herb found love again and remarried Francine. They shared a special bond and enjoyed attending dances together, creating 15 years of beautiful memories. Herb will be lovingly remembered by his wife Francine, daughters Brenda (Tooth) and Marna (Forsyth), son-in-law Gary Forsyth, grandchildren Kayla, Melissa, Alana, and Aiden, as well as his three brothers and their families: Ken, Hugh, and Bruce. He is predeceased by his first wife, Doris.

My family and I are incredibly sad to hear of Herb’s passing. He was one of my Dad’s dearest friends for most of their lives, after my Dad Mel (Milton) Foster join d the RCMP. We have so many fond memories of them, being best buds.
Herb was a great man, with a huge heart and the best laugh I have ever heard.
Sending our love to Hernan family and friends at this sad time.
I know Dad had a cold beer waiting for Herb on the other side.

My deepest condolences to Herb's wife and family on a special loss. We have been very close friends both in the RCMP and in private life. Our history and folklore dates back to his neighbours with our close friends in Lakeview, firearm shooting, licensing, many private luncheons, RCMP veteran meetings and Tims coffee breaks. Those memories will always remain.

I served with Herb with the RCMP at Calgary Detachment back in the early 70’s. I recall many stories about hunting, grain buying and yes S/Sgt as well. RIP my old friend and may God grant you a good hunting dog and a stubble field full of pheasants.

I worked with Herb in Calgary in early 70s. Herb was always lots of laughs when he was around. Nothing fazed him including our S/Sgt at the time. My condolences to his wife and family. Cherish the memories.
