Herbert Kufeldt

January 14th, 1933 - August 25th, 2023
Born in Mannville, Alberta
Passed in Calgary, Alberta
Herbert Kufeldt

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing on Friday, August 25, 2023 of Herb Kufeldt at the age of 90 years

During his working life, Herb was primarily involved in the residential real estate business, first as a salesman and then as a builder involved in the development and sale of many of Calgary’s neighbourhoods in the south end of the city.  For everyone that knew him, Herb was a kind and gentle man.  He loved having regular coffees with a small group of friends, or if it was later in the day, he would never say no to a rum and coke and some conversation. He enjoyed a game of golf and had a talent for finding the water hazards, no matter on which side of the fairway they were positioned.  Herb enjoyed many golf games with his wife Jean and their friends at Highwood Golf Club where they were members, and on winter vacations with Jean in Cabo San Lucas.

For those who knew Herb, they will know that he always went by Herb W. Kufeldt but steadfastly refused to say what the W stood for.  Many guesses were made but none were correct.  Well, an obituary is not the place to reveal a long-held secret, so that secret will, as Herb always wanted it, accompany him to his grave!

Herb was married to Jean for 65 years prior to Jean’s passing in 2021 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease, during which Herb was her devoted caregiver.  Herb will be greatly missed and remembered by their two children, Kent (Jan) and Carmen (Bill); and their four grandchildren, Payton, Piper, Tyler and Tessa.

We were neighbours with Herb for over a decade before he moved out of Oakridge. I loved chatting with him out front, tending the yard or shovelling snow - he was so kind. He was so patient when Jean's ailment took hold and I loved that he continued to take her out for drives after she had moved out. I would see him leaving like clockwork every day for his coffee chat in his big white car. I am sad to hear of his passing. Sending love to his family.

I'm a nephew of Herb and have known him most of my lfe. Unfortunately we didn't see a lot of each other for many years because we lived in different parts of the country. Herb was a great guy and I always liked him a lot. He was always friendly and interested in other people. Rest in peace Uncle Herb.
